Can it Be?!?!?

Has it really almost been 1 year since the Ground Breaking Moonshine Lunch Run was held?!?!?

YES!!! YES IT HAS I SAY!!!

What??? You never made it too Moonshine Lunch Run last year???

WHATS THIS?!?!?

You say,,, you,,, Have never Been to Moonshine Illinois,,, E V E R?!?!?!

SWEET MOTHER OF MOTORCYCLES!!!

How can you look yourself in the mirror and honestly say YOU,,, have never had a Moonburger!!! And you call yourself a "Meat Eater"... Shame on you... Here is a Write up by a friend who serves on a Multi-County Board with me that tells about Moonshine...

Moonshine is FAR MORE,,, than a place to eat a Hamburger!!!

http://sdappert.home.mchsi.com/Moonshine,%20Illinois.htm

OK!!! All Right!!! I am making it "Official"!!!

The Second,,, EVER,,, Moonshine Lunch Run will be on April 8th 2006...

WHAT!?!?! You say,,, you never heard of Moonshine Illinois!!! Well,,, you are in a big need to get there then!!! Best Hamburgers this side of the Milky Way... The town has a population of,,,,,,, 2... They will sell about 400 - 500 hamburgers on a really good day and 200 on a bad day... It is an old time country store that has been there for EVER!!! It has been on every local TV Station/Paper and also St Louis/Chicago/Indianapolis TV and also the Newspapers of those fine cities...

AND,,, Blue Moon who we all love and admire,,, well,,, at least admire,,, 8^) has been here HIMSELF and gave it the Blue Moon "2 Thumbs Up" award!!!

Last year over 30 Bikers from 6 States showed up for the First Ever Event!!! 1 Guy rode 610 miles,,, 1 FRIGG'N WAY to attend!!!

But wait,,, There Is More!!!

Just over a year ago it was featured on the National "CBS Sunday Morning" TOO!!! And,,, THEY had a heck of a time getting there without my help!!!

Where is Moonshine??? Well,,, being that I am a "Local" and go there about every week it is easier to show you,,, than tell you... Honestly,,, GPS can't even get you to Moonshine Illinois!!! Well,,, it might but you will end up on a gravel road and having to stop and ask someone on a tractor how to get there so,,, save face and just let me take you...

My plan is to have everyone come by my house and we will leave from here no later than 11:15 am... You can start showing up anytime after 8 am April 8th... (((Hey,,, it is a Saturday and I might sleep in)))

Show up early at my house!!! Lots of bikes to see,,, people to talk too...

Moonshines Grill is turned on till 12:30 pm,,, SHARP!!! The Doors close at 1pm,,, SHARP!!! Doesn't matter if you are Republican/Democrat/Movie Star/Pope,,, 12:31 you will be eating a cold sandwich,,, and a 1pm you will be standing outside looking in!!! 8^)

I have a BIG shop,,, lots of chairs,,, and free drinks and snacks as long as it is Cola and Coffee you are drinking...

Prizes??? Did someone say Prizes!?!?!?!?

Door prizes for the farthest 3 distances away will be given away...

But WAIT,,, There Is MORE!!!

Everyone that makes the trip I will buy their drink and dessert at Moonshine too!!!

:::::limited to the first 300 people,,, void in west virginia:::::

So,,, get yourself to Casey Illinois... There is only one traffic light in town and it is in downtown Casey... It is at the intersection of Rt 49 and OLD Rt 40/Main Street... Turn east on Old Rt 40/Main Street and go till you see 4th street and start watching... It is just 4 blocks from Downtown... Continue till you can see 5th street as we set on the North West corner of Rt 40/Main Street and 5th street and we are the BIG brick 2 story home with a shop on the extra lot... My address is REALLY 410 East Main St but on the Map below it shows us as really living at 490 East Main St... ????? 100 years ago SOMEBODY screwed up the house #'s is all I can say...

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&address=490+East+Main+St&city=Casey&state=IL&zipcode=62420

So,,, GET YOURSELF READY FOR A MOONSHINE RUN!!!

[SIZE="4"]The Second,,, EVER,,, Moonshine Lunch Run will be on April 8th 2006...

Terry,

I hope you will count me in after reading this.

I've wanted to visit you and go to moonshine for a burger for a heck of a long time.

However, I currently find myself without a rideable ST-1300 or any rideable motorcycle for that matter. My Lincoln is just too big to be disguised as a Gold Wing... maybe the minivan... Anyhow, even if I manage to get a second bike by then (thinking of a dual sport - v-strom or the like while I'm rebuilding te ST), I am not entirely optimistic about my ability to handle the distance by early April due to ongoing back pains.

So, I'm requesting a ruling from the judges on this: May I please come along on this ride in something that has four wheels? I promise to pretend that it's a motorcycle - complete with vroom-vroom sound effects and I also promise to bring the most beautiful wife I have and the two most charming kids y'all could ever hope to meet! :) If y'all want, I could even press them into musical service and have them bring their banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and my guitar and we could have us a mini-concert! (Or we could skip that - I know there's probably more than one here that think bluegrass would be cruel and unusual punishment).

Anyhow, regardless of how y'all decide, for anyone riding a long distance and travelling through the St. Louis area, I'd be happy to offer at least a place to drop a sleeping bag on your way through.

Thanks,

I,,,TRIED to buy everyones Drink and desert but failed on more than a few...

But this year,,, take every name,,, on the list,,, and each will cost me $2.25 as I am buying their Cola and Desert... I might have to hide this fact/$$$ from "The Lovely Cindy" or get real creative on my "Discretionary Fund"

Incredible idea... I'll pay $15.00 for one (or more if necessary) and Terry, if you can get a pre-order large enough, I'd bet you could get your cost in at $2.50 per item less... which would cover your expense.....or if you are determined to treat us all to dessert by yourself... more door prizes!!! PS... Just have a disclaimer that all t-shirts come in XL.

# 1 ~~~ There is BARELY a town called Moonshine even... The town has,,, 1,,, repeat,,, 1 building... :D

# 2 ~~~ Helen Tuttle owns the 1 building and she makes up the closest thing to the "Chamber of Commerce" Moonshine has!!!

# 3 ~~~ Helen Tuttle who owns this 1 building,,, the ONLY building,,, is the Cook,,, at Moonshine... Her and her Husband with a little help,,, cook,,, EVERY hamburger that goes out the door...

# 4 ~~~ Helen Tuttle makes up exactly,,, 50% of the Chamber of Commence vote as her and her husband are the only 2 residents,,, of Moonshine!!!

# 5 ~~~ Helen Tuttle's part of the Sponsorship for this Moonshine Run will consist of her cooking your hamburger,,, saying the grill is shut off at 12:30pm,,, and telling you to get out at 1pm... :D

Now??? FRIGG'N NOW???

My best guess would be about 150... This is from my past experience that you take the total you have after 7 days,,, and double it... We are now on 56 with 5 from Texas,,, 2 from Florida,,, 4 from Tennessee,,, 2 from Alabama,,, 1 from Oklahoma,,, and,,, ::::gulp:::: 2 from Canada!!!

Biddyman ~~~ What do I have to pay you guys to help me do that?!?!?!:D

You guys are more than welcome the night before!!! I think of Putt as family and you guys can use my house/shop all you want... I plan on taking who ever to Richards Farm Restaurant Friday night and eat... Hope there is a good turn out for that too... I will assemble as many "1/2 price" coupons as I can by then...

This is so cool!!! Yes,,, it is a 400 pound Gorilla already,,, and gaining weight everyday... Yes I am spend WAY,,, WAY to much time answering questions and updating list on 4 sites but,,, I am so far,,, having a BALL!!!

I think of this site as my "Home" so,,, if you guys can think of anything we should do/have/not have/attempt I am open to it...

I am going to look into Shirts as has been requested... The idea of having all of them as an XL sounds good... "IF" I have 100 people on my list in March I might get say,,, 50 shirts and have 30 XL,,, and 20 XXL or so... My opinion??? You never throw out a shirt to big,,, you throw out ones that are to small...

I am going to have MEGA AMOUNTS of Coffee this year!!! I ran out of Coffee about 10 am last year... :(

I will REQUIRE EVERYONE to sign in with,,,

Name - Internet Handle - Motorcycle ~ State/Town - Mileage

Anyone has any ideas that will make this better,,, just Ping me!!!

Terry, do you think Helen can actually accommodate 200 people? Your posts lead one to believe this is a "two table" restaurant. Are there restrooms? Trash cans? Drinking water for those in the long line? Tables? I'm sure you and her will go over all the details, but the 20 years of restaurant experience I have (previous career) taught me the importance of planning & checklists. I would be happy to volunteer in any way you need...I still can cook a mean burger...

As Biddyman said (((Thanks for filling in Biddyman,,, 3 months out and you are already helping out!!! :) ))) Helen has served 529 hamburgers before,,, and 125 Bikers all in 1 group and had 3 more smaller groups that day too!!! That was the day of the 529 served...

I once asked the Pepsi guy as he was bringing in bottles if he just hit Moonshine every other time... He looked puzzled and said no... I said,,, "Well,,, being it is Moonshine and all,,, I thought maybe you didn't stop as often"... The Pepsi guy laughed and said he sold more bottles at Moonshine than any other place he Stopped!!! I started watching and counting and,,, EVERYBODY,,, gets a bottle of pop... Some don't eat,,, but all seem to drink... On the day they sold the 529 hamburgers??? They sold over 1,200 bottles of pop!!!

Lots of Picnic Tables out in a yard right beside the Store... Inside the store is some old church pews facing each other... You walk in,,, and get your bottle of pop as you enter,,, work your way back to the back and order,,, find a seat,,, or head outside... Helens helpers will call your name and you can load up your hamburger as you want it and you get served on a tin can lid about the size to cover a 2 gallon bucket... Napkins are manditory... :D

The way you guys have offered to help,,, really does get to me... I can't thank you enough!!! If I have some projects I will sure tell you... But,,, man,,, you guys are just to nice to a guy like me... :o:

Use MS S&T or another mapping program... Plot the route(s), it comes up
with the miles.... Or, use S&T to draw a radius from Casey/Moonshine
that would show farthest distance, but not actual farthest driven miles..

They have cooked 529 Hamburgers in 1 day,,, and that is not all the cook,,, but,,, it is about 85% I would say...

My Guess now???

I have just signed on,,, have not read my e-mail,,, have not checked any place but here... But,,, I KNOW,,, I have at least 3 more today singed up... How??? I ALWAYS,,, DO!!! ;)

There are about 70 days to go till April 8th...

"IF" we average just 3 a day for 70 days,,, + what we have on the list??? We are looking at 350 people,,, to eat a hamburger,,, in a town,,, with a population of 2...

I have decided not to advertise this local... I think it is more important to let the guys riding in from Texas/Canada/Florida/Wisconsin/Missouri to have the fun... Sure,,, I can assure you the news is OUT about this here... I am hoping to hold the local crowd down to maybe,,, 30 - 50...

If I put this in the paper,,, and called the surrounding newspapers???

SWEET MOTHER OF MOTORCYCLES!!! It really would be the Woodstock of the Motorcycle riding,,, hamburger eating experience...

UPDATE!!! UPDATE I SAY!!!

Did I say 3???

Well,,, it was 9 more people joining the list!!!

So,,, lets just say we average 5 per day... 70 days,,, = 350 more!!! WE WILL HAVE 500 PEOPLE,,, riding from EVERYFRIGG'N WHERE,,, to eat a hamburger,,, in a town with 1 Store,,, with a population of 2,,, that is called Moonshine?!?!?!

TOO COOL!!! TOO COOL!!!

Ok,,, tell me what you think... I think about 200 bikes at my house would be,,, manageable,,, but over 200???

I am trying to come up with a plan to keep everyone from getting to Moonshine at 11:32 pm,,, and have 1 hour to Park/Work your way inside/Work your way to the back to order/Get your Pop...

My plan,,, as it is forming in my head at least... 8^)

# 1 ~~~ People start showing up at my house... Register them on what they are riding,,, where they are from,,, yack at them and enjoy the company...

# 2 ~~~ Big crowd appears and about 9 or 10 am I will ask if some are ready to head to Moonshine... If 40 are,,, they can head down and about every 15 - 30 minutes or so send another group down to Moonshine with either riders who KNOW,,, FOR SURE,,, how to get there or Locals leading the way that do...

# 3 ~~~ This will spread out the massive line trying to get ordered,,, and wouldn't you rather spend more time in Moonshine than parked up at my house???

Repeat,,, I want everyone/anyone to come to my house and sign in,,, get some coffee and snacks,,, kick the tires and yack here... Then,,, when/if you are ready,,, head to Moonshine in smaller motorcycle "Convoys" the 12 miles to Moonshine...

What does that sound like to everybody???

Ideas are welcome if anyone is good with "Flow Charts"!!!

how bout you take a ride with a few of the folks that get there early, and show them the way to moonshine? then we can all ride back and each one lead a group back at the 15-30 min intervals.....just a thought

Austin city limits
01-27-2006, 10:10 PM
Good Idea!!! I can also use some locals to take them down...

My thought was,,,

40 or so are hanging out,,, drinking Coffee,,, eating donuts at my Garage about 9:30 am... Some have rode 900 miles or more and I think I can speak for everyone here when I say,,, are getting tired of Austin's endless ramblings :o:  and want to head to Moonshine...

Austin stops yacking,,,

:::: DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES?!?!?!

Just long enough to ask who wants to head South the 12 miles to Moonshine... 22 say yes...

:::::Rocket Man decides that just 3 more cups of Coffee,,, and 2 more Apple Fritters and he will have stored enough energy to ride non-stop to dallas,,, that day,,, and wants to stay and power eat at the shop another 45 minutes:::::

Austin then ask if any of the 22 can,,, FOR SURE,,, without a doubt,,, find Moonshine??? If,,, he has someone,,, for sure,,, I put that person on lead and send them out... If not??? A local or as you said,,, a "Pre-Moonshine Ride Qualified/Checked out" leader will be assigned...

STeve1300

Terry, just some fun with numbers.....

215 single file riders spaced 25' apart, would form a line over a mile long.

IF you had 425 riders, and we left single file, spaced 150 feet apart (3 city lot lengths) the line would streatch the 12 miles to Moonshine.

425 x 150' = 63750'. Divide that by 5280' in a mile = your 12.07 miles!!! WOW

:::::everything,,, reminds austin of a story,,, you starting to get the picture now:::::

In this age of "Health Departments",,, even Clark County has strict rules about sanitation,,, and attached bathrooms... But,,, Moonshine,,, gets,,, "Over Looked" every year... The Inspector,,, and the Department knows they would be shot,,, dead/office burned/funding cut/lose their job/get speeding tickets setting still if they closed Moonshine...

Once a lady came in from Chicago/Springfield and told Helen that if she did not have a bathroom this lady was shutting down this Store this instant... Helen asked,,,

"Now how and why are you going to do that??? I have a bunch of people driving a long distance coming in and they are wanting fed"

The Springfield/Chicago lady said all she had to do was make a call and it would be done...

A friend eating there said,,,

"You have about as good of a chance doing that here,,, as you have as getting a phone signal from here"

The Lady checked her phone,,, no signal... My friend then went on to say,,,

Do me,,, You,,, and the Police a favor,,, and eat a hamburger,,, set here for about 1 hour,,, and then you tell me what you are going to do...

The lady ordered... Sat over by the cash register,,, and watched,,, all the people,,, and more people,,, come in,,, from EVERYWHERE... After about 1 hour,,, she got up,,, paid her bill,,, thanked the lady who took her money,,, and left smiling... Never heard from her,,, Chicago,,, Springfield again...

Oh,,, and good news!!! The phone signal has improved a little and the Health department employees eat at Moonshine about 2 times a week... So,,, you have nothing to fear... They LOVE,,, Moonshine!!! 8^)

I did it over the internet. First I checked what the usual rates were, then clicked "enter your special rate ID" hyperlink, typed in the HSTA code, and it went thru a couple of screen changes. Then you have to click on "SOS" (?) discount type. (I think it stands for significant organization savings) You're new lower rates will appear.

Just book another room with the HSTA discount, then cancel your original.

Between the 20% off I got from Heat-Troller http://www.heat-troller.com
on my wifes new heated jacket liner and the motel discount, I've saved more money than my annual HSTA membership cost!

I will start another thread on Camping here very soon... I am back from Mexico,,, pulled an All nighter finishing my Taxes Sunday night to take to the Tax man on Monday,,, went to bed at 7 pm last night and slept like a rock till 7 am... Well,,, a Rock in the shape of a Tub of Goo that is... :o:

I am Tanned,,, Rested,,, and ready to get busy on preparing for the Moonshine Run!!! :D

Who you pay??? It is just a guy who lives across the Street from the Park so,,, I will take some pictures of the area/Park and post them on a Camping Thread soon... I will also see if you can just pay me and I will get the City the Money to make it easier than tracking someone down...

Hi Terry...not that I would actually have anything else to do this morning but read your entire list......I would like to point out that you have #201-Ron Hughes listed 2x (consecutively with the same #201)...and you re-listed me at #249, when I currenttly hold a primo "Charter Member" spot at #17. (I meant to sign up for dinner last time I posted.) Now back to my regularly scheduled crossword puzzle....

Now,,, on the Ron Hughes??? I will have to dig deep and make sure he wasn't bringing somebody with him,,, and I screwed up the #,,, or,,, I just screwed up copy & pasting when I updated... (((My money is on the Copy-Paste Thingy)))

It is official... I can screw up a train wreck... ;)

Thanks Again Steve!!!

Update!!! UPDATE I SAY!!!

Ron Hughes was the Cut & Paste Screw up... If this was your bet it was paying 2 - 1... Collection of winnings can be picked up at the Dairy Bar in Cherry Falls West Virginia before 1 pm today... :)

Nothing planned as of this date but,,, I am open!!! I was thinking about setting up something but unsure where yet...

Everyone can hang out all day at my shop and we can just see how many we have and ride to eat Saturday night... Some will be riding in the area but,,, we do need to have something in the planning stage at least now... That way,,, they can plan to meet up back here or at the place we decide...

We have a good place with a great view to eat at about 16 miles away to the East... It is inside a State Park with a very cool 5 mile road arond the park... Good food,,, cheap too... We have a local place to eat good food 5 blocks away too... We could always go back to Richards too... I will ask some people a place to plan on...
