I'm wanting to add GPS to my ST, but on a budget, and in a unique manner. I am thinking one of the handheld units that I can also use hiking, climbing, and hunting i.e; GPSMAP 60CS. I currently have an eTrex that I download simple routes to, but not maps. The thing is I want a Tank Bag that integrates the GPS. Powerlet makes a kit called the 'PowerMate Tankbag Power System' that will easily allow power to be brought into a bag, http://www.powerletproducts.com/products/ptb.php, so at this point I'm looking for a bag that is designed to hold a handheld GPS.

Right now I'm thinking the closest I'm going to get is buying the Joe Rocket Manta Tank Bag http://www.joerocket.com/jrf/home.cfm , adding the PowerMate, and taking the bag and the GPS to 'The Wilderness', a climbing store and specialty cobbler, in Phoenix and having them modify the bag. They have a custom shop and have modified backpacks for my climbing needs.

As for why?

I won't be using the GPS very often, maybe twice a month, and I don't want to add a permenent mount to the bike. Also I like the idea of throwing the bag in the trunk when I'm eating, taking a pee, ect...

You should bre able to find a handlebar mount for your GPS. The unit can then be snapped on or off as often as you wish. Lots of people mount them on their mountain bikes as well. failing that, you can keep it under the clear plastic map pocket that is on the top of most tank bags. For power you can run a lead from the tank bag somewhere into your harness up front. Good luck!:)
