Someone said the 276C is also XM ready. What are the differences between these 2 units? The 276 sure looks nice..

The 376C is the XM version and it does not have mp3 capability. I believe the x76C versions are originally marine versions. They have bigger screens, brighter in the daylight. They use buttons instead of a touch screen and use Garmin specific removeable memory, 512K maximum.

I'm sure the experts will weigh in and tell you more of the differences...

I think you hit it right on the head. The 376C will use batteries and the 2730 does not have a battery option.

Hold on Charlie. I've been hearing that the XT is having a hard time staying in it's cradle when mounted on a bike. That's just what I've heard. You know if Garmin can make a "weather proof" GPS why the hell can't these satellite radio manufacturers make a "weather proof" XM radio. Bikes and boats I would think could benefit from something like that.

"The Streetpilot 2730 also has XM Weather and Audio capabilities with the optional GXM 30 antenna (additional subscription required through XM). The GXM 30 antenna measures 2 ½” in diameter and approximately 1” tall, and has a magnetic base for mounting. The GXM 30 Smart antenna will allow you to receive NEXRAD weather radar and forecasts, wave data and surf temperatures, plus XM Radio audio channels."

Got this from a GPS website....are they wrong?

Charlie is right. Read the 2730 literature again. No where does it mention NEXRAD. It recieves weather information like forecasts and currently conditions but it does NOT have NEXRAD radar capabilities. Only the 376C has that.

Sorry I'm preaching on it but a lot of people are making this mistake. I'm trying to stop the spread of nasty rumors. :)

Guys, give me your advice. Thinking of getting the extender cable for the GXM 30 antenna and mounting the antenna on the Hondaline top box. Thoughts? No criticism intended, but the pic I saw mounting it to the right reservoir didn't seem real good. I had a GPS V there at one point and sharp turns can be interesting.

Anyone have pics of their antenna mounting for the 2730 other than the brake reservoir?

Can it get a signal through ABS plastic? Could it work under the cowling under the windshield? I would like to get a 2730 but I can't seem to get my wife to agree to hold it during our 2 up rides :D

Where are the pictures of the brake reservoir mount?

I can say that it does not take much to block the reception of the antenna. I have it currently sitting on top of my tank toward the front directly under the GPS and I have lost the signal. I have to move it out or rearward to correct the blockage. So I would say it should not be mounted anywhere but in the open or basically nothing above it.

I debated about the topbox mount method but since I take that off ocassionally I did decided against. I don't have a dash shelf so that is a no go. The winner was the brake reservoir and I am sure it will work great.

I did see one post that said the reservoir would not be a good location and I am curious as to why? How or what would be affected on sharp turns? I put the antenna on the reservoir and turned the bars lock to lock and have not contact at all. Is there something I have missed? Not offended for sure just curious.

Very interesting since I have lost my signal several times just driving around town. I wonder if my antenna is acting goofy. It does not do it everyday just every once in awhile.

Good test Charlie, thanks.
