View Full Version : Need help!,police radio mounts

Hi everyone,

We just got our 4 new ST's last week. I am working with our shop to mount the control head of our radio ( Macom orion 800 mhz) in a suitable place b/t the handlebars. We are running into a install problem with our current radio mount. Its to wide for the Honda. Our shop is going to fabricate an adapter to mount to our current bracket that was used on our Kawasaki's ( b/t the handle bars ). I would like to see how everyone is mounting your radios.
We do not want to mount it on top of the dash.

Can anyone send me some pics of their radio set up? Thanks.

These are King County ST's that are not the P model. They used civilian ST's and adapted everything to them.

I actually ride a police Roadking. Hope these help.

Here are two (poor) pix of my dash. The bracket is made by Thunderworks, and works great. Let me know if you need more info or better shots...

quick question. did you get your engine gaurds from MC industries or from someone local. my department did not go with engine gaurds on my st1300p. i wish they had. did you dealer have any problems cutting throught the fairing to install the gaurds. thanks for any information you can give me.

fpd, ours were made by Thunderworks here in San Diego County. They're made from 1" round stock, so they're pretty tough and won't bend easily. (I tested them by slamming into a pickup truck at a little under 30mph...)

We designed them to clamp onto the metal protection bar underneath the plastic winglet cover. There's a hole cut in that $9 plastic cover, so that's not too much of a loss. The upper bracket is bolted to the engine mount, so there's no cutting of the outer plastic. It was the cleanest and easiest design we could come up with, with the least cutting/altering of the bike.
