Nice bike. I picked up my '01 ST1100 back in September. They are an amazing bike, very smooth, silky, and quiet. Be forewarned tho that it is VERY easy to be going MUCH faster than you think. Take some time and do do some nice rides to get used to the bike. I found myself going into some corners much hotter than I wanted because I didn't realize the speed of the bike. It's way different from my V-Twin cruiser!

Thanks for the advice Clair. I will take it easy for a while. Just ran it through the gears the other night and found myself at 115.

Excellent! Another 1100 joins the board; even if you are on the wrong side of the country :D

The bike is definietly quick, smooth and powerful. I made the mistake of selling one, going to something else. I had to come back, it's the best big bike I've ever owned. No desire for a 1300; tho maybe when the prices drop. And my 1100 dies. And I win the lottery.

What`s with the paint job?
Any story behind it.

The story is that the owner before the guy that sold it to me got tired of gray, so took the bike to BMW for a nice new custom paint job. I like the way it really stands out.

When I got the bike, it had heli-bars installed, and I liked the feel. What I didn't like, however, was the clunky look without the plastic cowling over the bars. Just for kicks, I put the stock bars and cowling back on. I really like the looks, but now have to get used to a more forward riding position. Hopefully, my shoulders and wrists will adapt. If not, I will have to go back to the heli and find a way to "pretty" it up.

Anyone have any suggestions?

If you do some searching you'll find suggestions the gist of which will say:

"Use your back not your wrists to support your weight while riding the ST".

I have found that if I drop my shoulders and take my weight off my wrists there are no issues with either the ST1100 (mine) or the ST1300 riding positions.

Congrats on the bike and on the great rides to your East.
