I must say that buying the ST at this dealership was not what it should have been. The sales management tried every tactic in the book to get me to overpay and they even pulled the bait and switch. They advertised an 03 abs but when I arrived it was not available for sale. I ended up purchasing the bike after the owner got involved and told them to give me the price I wanted and then some. Would not recommend purchasing a bike from them. Buying a bike should be fun, not a pain.:( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Sorry you had to do it the hard way. But look on the bright side. It's done and you have an ST!!!

Welcome.

I bought mine from them, and I wasn't all that impressed either. But I only had two dealers in NC to choose from - Charlotte and Asheville.

I slightly screwed up and told the guy in Charlotte that I'd buy his bike, the Asheville slightly undercut his price. Over the phone, I liked Asheville better - but it was about a six hour round trip, versus Charlotte in 3 hours. I got a decent price, and did all of the negotiating over the phone, which was nice.

No, I wouldn't send anyone to Honda of Charlotte unless they were desperate. Then you have to be on high alert.

Sorta my experience with them too last time I bought a bike from them. Course that was back in 1984, a new 650 Nighthawk. Seems things never change. Glad to see theres another ST owners in the area..

I bought mine at Excel Motorsports in Concord. One BIG dealer (Building used to be a Lowes) and the buying experience was great . Steve , the owner seems to be a pretty decent guy. Usually does not carry STs (He has a nice 1998 ST1100 for sale now though) but says he can get one in just a few days. Service department ??? Can't really comment. Aside from 600 mile service and recalls my ST has'nt needed any work.

Was wondering, where all you NC guys getting you service done ?????

I had my 600 mile service at Stroud's Honda here in Greensboro. Seemed like they were pretty good... but that's the limit of my experience, since that's all I've had done.

There's also Honda of High Point (or High Point Honda, whatever) - but they really wanted too much for a non-ABS ST, and were not interested in helping me get a ABS model - I went elsewhere and haven't gone back - don't know about their service.

I hear there's a decent dealer in Winston-Salem, but I really don't want to go THAT far for service.

I bought from Ricky Hendrick Honda in Pineville. Back then ('04, before Ricky's plane crash; things may be different now) they had sold several ST's, the salesmen knew a little about them, and the dealership was eager to deal. Went back there for the 600 mile service and was reasonably pleased (I had an experienced Honda tech, not some new kid) but not thrilled (he wasn't very experienced with the ST.) Pineville is a long drive from Hickory, so on the advice of another ST owner on this board and a local owner off the board, I went to Statesville Honda for the recalls and to have a set of tires (my own) mounted. Dropped the bike and tires off on Saturday and went back to pick it up Tuesday after work -- no problems, no complaints. It's only a small shop, but one tech seems to have some ST 1300 experience, and I'll probably try them again.
Pred8tor: No real experience with the Winston dealer, but the two times I've stopped they have had an ST on the floor. I was turned off though when I was shopping and nobody on the sales floor could even tell me where the oil fill, oil check, or the battery was -- it was a weekday, so maybe their best salesmen weren't in??
It's a shame such a great ride has such poor dealer support. I wouldn't mind driving to a dealer if I was confident and comfortable leaving my ST there with a knowledgable experienced tech.

I live in Raleigh and since I enjoy riding I go to Honda Powersports of Crofton (as in Crofton, MD) Yes, there is a Honda dealer 10 minutes from my house, but I really like the service at the shop in MD. When I lived in Pensacola FL I flew to MD to buy my ST and then rode it home.

Does it impact me that a family member owns the MD Honda shop? OK, you got me! Gotta say, I really lucked out that my uncle went into the Honda business. :bow1: I know I am getting great service whenever I'm there, but they don't do good work ONLY for family! ;)

Can't really vouch for the Raleigh Honda, haven't had to use them for service. It's a fairly small shop but they seem friendly, not pushy.

MR Honda in Asheville NC quoted me $256 for a valve inspection ('00 ST1100)
shims would be extra.

I Am ready, and would love to put the bike in the hands of a competent tech,
but I have no experience (first hand or by reputation) with their service dept.

Without a feeling of confidence in my mechanic I guess I will have to train myself to carry on with it.

Has anyone had input on the Asheville Honda service dept??

I have had a lot of dealings with Honda of W-S. Their sales dept is the pits. You are usually lucky if you can even get one of them to talk to you. Forget about getting any deals there!

As for service, they have a tech that has been in the business for over 25 years. That is how long I have known him. He used to work for Town and Country Honda way-back-when. He worked on my first street bike back in 1983 and I think he was around when I had my dirt bikes. I doubt you will find another tech with as much knowlege. Just ask for Junior if/when you take your bike in.

I haven't bought a bike from Honda of Charlotte but did try to buy an 06 ST1300ABS a couple of months ago. The salesman said he thought they would match the price from Southern in Chattanooga plus $500. It would cost me some to travel etc. so over the phone I asked for a confirmation of this. He said the sales manager wouldn't give a confirmation on the phone, I had to come in. I told him my offer would not change from the phone to being there and if I came in and they didn't take the offer I'd be upset at the waste of my time. I know the routine is to get the poor people into the store and drooling over the bike and they give in. Well, he wanted $1,000 more than my offer, and I told the salesman to convery my displeasure at how they wasted my time and left. They did save me about $3,500 though since I bought a low miles 04 ABS with about $1500 of accessories (guess that adds up to about $5000 overall saved) instead for that much less than they wanted for the 06. Oh yeah, the service guys have been good to me on my V-Stroms, but I do all my own work except for valve check and do the spark plugs and air filter at the same time. So far that is about all they have done for me. I hope the ST makes few visits to the service dept. also.
