All,
This is an email that I received directly from a Garmin Product Specialist. I've been reading a lot of threads regarding questions about Garmin GPS units. Here's the low down. :D
Here's my email to Garmin:
Problem:
I am looking to purchase a GPS for mounting on a touring motorcycle. Some of the guys I ride with have had problems with the units that contain an
internal HD from the harshness of the ride. What unit so you recommend?
Also, I need it waterproof since it will be mounted on a touring motorcycle.
Here's the reply:
David,
I will be happy to help you out with this. The 2620 which does have a hard
drive in it was not recommended for the motorcycle use because of the
spinning drive, so that could be the unit you might be hearing about. I
would recommend a 2720 or a 2730 as these both have a stationary drive and
are water proofed up to IPX7 standards. I am sending you a link below so
you can view both of these units. If you have any additional questions
please feel free to contact our product support team at the phone numbers
listed below or reply to this email.
