I am newcomer here, just bought ST1300 2004 last week. Have been looking some accessories ("farkles" you might say), deceided already to buy:
Cee Baileys +2 +6 larger windshield
Vista Cruise (or Audiovox real cruise)
Speedahealer
Fender extent
thinking about the Staintubes (had Yoshimuras in my Blackbird and kind of a get used to have noisy exhaust system ...)
I have read a lot about the Fuel Pressure Regulator but not really seen the basic idea:
- is this just balancing the pressure to be the same all the time OR is there going to be higher pressure or what ?
- somebody said the fuel consumption will raise (with gasoline prices in Europe this really matters) ==> what is the experience here ?
- what is the best place to buy this device and what is the price ?
Thanks in advance

Hi FlyingFinn:
Turbocity Tom is the only place I know of for the regulator. It basically cranks up the pressure slightly in the delivery pipe - so that pressure is held all the time, but affects the gas flow througout the range. Here is the item
http://www.turbocity.com/product_info.php?cPath=64&products_id=551
If you do a search on "turbocity" here you will find all the information you want on the regulator. The fuel pressure regulator is also reffered to as the "FPR" in some threads, so use that as a keyword too.

Regarding the FPR, I believe that most people have reported an 1-2mpg decrease. I personally haven't noticed that much of a difference in mpg but a nice improvement in drivability.
As said before it raises the pressure a small amount.
I believe large windshield will actually cause more mileage decrease than the FPR, I say go for it. I love mine.

Flying Finn, I think you're main concern is what the FPR will do to your fuel consumption. As you can tell by the many replies on the subject, it doesn't seem to adversely affect your consumption rate. Some people report a slight increase in consumption after installing the FPR while others claim that their miles per gallon actually improved slightly.
Also, the amount of pressure it raises in the fuel rail is determined by a couple factors, namely do you you have an aftermarket air filter (namely, K&N) or exhaust. If so, the FPR will be calibrated to 59-61 psi. I believe the stock setting is 57-58.

Juha, I keep accurate fuel consumption records (I fill up every time and use actual distance and fuel volume data, not the trip computer).
Before I installed the FPR, my cumulative average fuel economy (since March 2003) was 43.59 miles per gallon. After installing the FPR, fuel economy averages 42.99 miles per gallon. About 1.4% drop in fuel economy.
For me, the FPR has improved acceleration at lower RPM's and removed the twitchy throttle response at lower RPM's. The small drop in fuel economy is very small and worth the improvement in drivability in my view.

Hei Juha! Polttoaineen ruiskun paineen korotus tekee ihmeitä. kulku muuttuu tasaisemmaksi ja minkäänlaista
tehokuoppaa ei tunnu 2000 - 3000 kierroksen välillä.
Pyörän kiihtyvyys tuntuu selvästi paremmalta. Polttoaineen kulutus pysyy ennallaan. :)

This is just in Finnish what are my experiments with the FPR. And I`m very satisfied. Sorry for that strange language.

Nice of you to join us in the gutter, Mellow. :D

I just bought my FPR directly from Tom at TurboCity yesterday here in Orange, California. He said with K&N air filter, buy the model 80-200 at 59PSI. With K&N and aftermarket pipes, get the model 80-200 at 61 PSI.
I paid $99 plus Cal tax of $8.

Thanks for everybody answering. I will order one. I still have two months before start of the season to do the installation.

Thanks for everybody answering. I will order one. I still have two months before start of the season to do the installation. I don't think it will take you more than a month to do the install; sounds like your timing is fine! (Actually, I did mine in a little over an hour - not too difficult at all; just be careful with the tank mounting bolts, washers and rubber grommets - they drop into the "black hole" all too easily!)
Have fun and ride safely!
