I'm going. If you're into camping, there is 29 Dreams, a great motorcycle resort, unfortunately they have sold out of cabins. I'm staying at the comfort inn in Leeds, It is just down the road from Barbers.

I'll be there. Haven't decided on accomodations yet.
Tannehill state park is a camping option. http://www.tannehill.org
I camped at the racetrack campground last year and it was a mudhole to the port-o-lets until late Saturday when they dropped a load of pine mulch to walk on. Showers were about 1/4 mile away hiking around the busy track service road and passing through a guard station to take a bath is not my cup of tea for $25.00 a night.
I'll put some pics on here tonight for those unfamiliar with the Barber Motorsports Park. http://www.barbermotorsports.com/

Hey Montyshaw,
Would you happen to have the phone # and address for the Comfort Inn near the track?
I have camped at Road Atlanta before. Its just more convenient to stay in a Hotel!

Look at the latest Motorcyclist Mag. for a big story on Barber and the usual great photos by my son Kevin.

I'll be going to Barber again this year. Been there every year since they started running the AMA races. It's a really nice track, and the museum right there on the grounds is a must see. Last year someone on one of the ST boards suggested a group photo in front of the museum, but as far as I know, it never happened. Local hotels seem to fill up early, so I wouldn't wait too long for reservations.

Why don't we plan to meet up Saturday morning at 10:00am for a group picture at the museum...what you think?

Could anyone tell me the best place to stay near the track (Barber Motorsports Track).

Went to my first superbike race there last year. Didn't ride up there cuz I wasn't sure what to expect but after I got there I wish I had. Bikes everywhere.Planning on riding up this year with my son. We are staying at the Ameri Suites and they had some rooms left a week ago but they are not cheap. They are about 15-20 miles from the track I'm guessing. The Museum blew me away. When my wife and I were leaving the Museum I spotted Mr. Barber in the parking lot putting leaflets on some cars. I walked over and and looked at one of the leaflets and it had something to the effect " If you liked your experience here the people you are supporting fought us on building this facility here". They had Some kind of a Sierra Club bumper sticker on their car. Later heard he had a battle to build his dream track, but it is a beautiful place and I can't wait till April. See ya'll there. :04biker:

We'll be leaving early Friday morning and plan to be at the park around 1:00PM to check in and tour the museum.
We're camping at the Tannehill Ironworks State Historical Site nearly an hour away but worth the trip.
See you there.

Sorry Lola, been out of town.
Here's the comfort inn info:
Comfort Inn & Suites (AL435)
1951 Village Drive , Leeds, AL, US, 35094
Phone: (205) 640-6600 Fax: (205) 640-6600
If anyone is into camping, the best place to camp for Barbers is at 29 Dreams, Great facility, out door music for the races, great people, and only 7 miles from the race track. I've camped at Barber, and it is not a very good camp ground, the showers are a pain. and it is very primitive camping.
I will be with a couple of other guys, one 1300 and one 1100. Let's all try to meet Sat at 10am or so in front of the museum. That sounds like a great idea.
I'll be there.

I'll be there. Been thee for the last 3 years, since they began the AMA races. We have stayed at many places within 15-30 miles. If you can stay off of I-20 it's a lot easier. I usaually stay in Irondale, can't remember the exit number off of I-20 thought.
The 10:00 get together sounds great, include me in.

I go every year and have found that if you ride about 10 miles west to Birmingham, the motels don't jack the rates up like the ones around the track do. You can stay at a Hilton for about 1/2 the price you will pay for a Holiday Inn Express around the track.

We have been going every year and we stay in the area around I-459 and Hwy 280 on the south side of Birmingham. I think it's called the Inverness area on Priceline. There's an abundance of good restaurants and hotels on Hwy 280.
It's a short 15 to 20 minute ride on back roads to the track and you don't have to fight traffic because you are coming in opposite from the main traffic flow.
Here are some pictures of the track from where we usually sit:

For those who have been before:
Can you ride your bike where you want to and park next to the track like you can at Road Atlanta?
What do you think of meeting at the Museum at 10AM 4-22-06.

There are designated parking spots for cars but not sure if bikes have there way. There is a tram thats runs continuously around the park that you can hop on and it carries all the way around the track in a few minutes. There are alot of bikes that park where the Honda 18- wheeler sets up there display of motorcycles, it's a spot where a lot of people view the race and you can be a 100'-200' from your bike. Someone will probably chime in with more info.
Museum at 10:00am Sat. last I heard.

I'd say it is a bit more controlled than road atlanta. This is a very nice place compared to RA. You can move around the track, but there is designated parking. And some nice viewing areas, but you don't park your bike there. I just park it somewhere and walk or use the tram, or ride to another parking area. I've never had anu trouble with leaving my jacket on the bike. It is like 100% riders there, so there aren't any problems. At least I've never had any.

There is a tram, but you can also ride your bike around on the service road. There are several designated parking areas, but I've never had a problem parking along the road, as long as it's not causing congestion. Of course you never know how those things change from year to year, they may not be as open minded about it this year. Overall though, I'd say it's not quite as accessable as Road Atlanta, but you can definitely move around the track.
Sat 10:00 AM at the museum. Who's got the digital camera?

We are staying at the Hampton Inn at I-459 and I-59. Last we stayed over in Irondale at the Holiday Inn express with the Haydens and DuHammel.
I'll be there too for the photo. Does anybody know if we need to make any reservations with the museum so we can park there for the photo? Sometimes they have bikes parked in front there at the circle, and sometimes not.
Just out of curosity, how many are planning on attending?

Staying in the Vestavia Hills area Friday-Sun. Taking the car, picking my son up in Baton Rouge. Looks like it might rain Friday/Saturday. Stayed in that area for about a week after hurricane Rita visited us last fall. Only had 3 other people in the museum the day I went.
