Looking to purchase a replacement windshield for my ST13. Came across a company called California Scientific. The windshield is $185.00. Wanted to know if anyone had any experience with this company and their products. They also have the Hot Wings plates. They claim it reduces the heat from the engine.

Mike,

I have the exact windshield you are inquiring about...

(I am guessing by the price you are referring to the Casci large)..

Overall I am very happy with it...
Thumbs up on:
1. Price
2. Size (although it takes a bit to get used to versus stock)
3. Overall quality
4. Wind/rain management is very good. (No more back pressure in upmost position)

A couple of negatives...
1. Some of my ST buddies have commented on the plastic washers that are used on the bottom mount screws to create a little more deflection angle..Honestly I installed them the way the directions said and it has not bothered me or hindered in the perfomance of the sheild one bit...Just wanted to give you full disclosure;)

2. Unless anything has changed, in its bottom most position, they shield makes contact with the mirror housing..I'm am lazy so my solution is to keep the shield up a tiny bit to avoid this..If I was not lazy, nothing a dremel would not handle..
Would I buy the shield again knowing all this??? Yes

As far as the hot wings, AGStreak had them and removed...I think you are better of with the hondaline stuff for this...

I also bought the Bellypan from Cal Sci at the same time but removed it because it served to 'scoop' leaves and all other road crap into it letting it sit between the top of the belly pan and the oil pan..It did not make enough difference to warrant it in my opinion. Luckily is was cheap..

If you have any other more specific questions I'll be glad to answer...

CalSci and Mark have great products and his site has great tips on technical stuff and other goodies. Just my $0.02.

The only way I could be happier with my Mark Lawrence/CalSci shield is if I had trained Monkeys feeding me Ice Cream while I rode... :biker:

Kempo, Terry, Neil. Thanks a lot for your time and responses. I’m debating between the Clearview and the Calsi. I wonder if the Medium Calsi will come in contact with the mirrors? I’ll do the measurements again. Thanks again.

I think you have to get a wing before you can get that Farkle, Terry...

I'll second the observation regarding the CalSci wind wings. They work well, but they're fragile and the flexing due to wind, etc., eventually causes them to crack, starting at the bottom edge. I suppose if they could be bolstered somehow, with a strip of plastic that wraps around the bottom edge and glues on, they'd last indefinitely.

My wife had the CalSci belly pan on her ST, and I can't honestly say, and neither can she, if it actually does anything. Didn't have any problem with it collecting stuff inside, though.

Hey DanF--where can I get that ice cream monkey thing farkle for my new Wing? Don't seem to find it at any of the aftermaket dealers. Inquiring minds want to know. LOL

Fireball,
Ask Mellow about the monkey thing, he has one already.

Kinser,

I used to have the CalSci deflectors and scoop. I gave the deflectors away, and the scoop lays in a corner of my garage, likely never to return to the ST. I replaced them with the HondaLine deflectors. MUCH better.

I too plan to replace the windshield with a CalSci medium shield.

Thank you for not even considering spanking your monkeys in my presence... :ban1:

You know we have a pretty stringent weight limit on the ST, right? You really can't put enough ice cream serving monkeys plus yourself on it and still be able to ride safely. Please be careful when attempting Gold-Wing farkles
on your ST. We can't afford to lose you before you show us all how to get to Moonshine!
