View Full Version : Progressive Road Side Assistance Versus Honda RCA
I have used Honda's Rider's Club of America road side assistance. Has anyone used Progressive Insurance's road side assistance? What was your experience?

I haven't used it yet, but I was advised when transferring my insurance to my STeed that they don't cover the recovery of your ride if it's more than 100 feet (yds?) off of the road. In other words, they'll send assistance, but that part will have to be out-of-pocket. We both had a good laugh when she told me to do my best to drag it within that distance if anything happened.
Although I haven't had to use their roadside assitance, I will give Kudos to Progressive for their coverage.
I signed up with Progressive in 2005: they provided better coverage for the ST for less money.
To top it off, I just got my bill for the next year. I was shocked to discover that my coverage had gone up, and my overall premium dropped $81!!
I've never had anyone reduce the price of service while upping what they give to the customer.

I agree with Progressive having good coverage and you also get a break on your premium if you are a HRCA member. I haven't had to use either company's road side service ...... Not Yet.

Mine did, too. Not $81 worth, but I'll take whatever they give me.

Is the Progressive roadside coverage optional (at extra cost), or part of the standard plan?

Roadside assitance was part of the standard coverage for me. I set up the coverage using the HRCA discount. They do nice work, but I suppose the proof is in the pudding - it's when I get in an accident that I really want them to do good.

Thanks. It's a shame, but when you read the fine print on Progressive's ads in Red Riders about the discount, they exclude a number of states... among them is NC. :(

I've seen a few posts mentioning HRCA and I've seen from their web site that you receive 1 year membership when you purchase a new Honda. I purchased an 06 ST1300 about 1 month ago but the dealer never mentioned HRCA. Should I receive something directly from Honda once the warrantee is registered or should the dealer have given me some paperwork? I entered My info on the HRCA web site and they don't know anyting about me (at least not yet). If it's automatic, how long does it typically take?

It takes a few month but I did receive the membership card and stuff in the mail. Nothing from the dealer. But do stay on top of things if you have not received anything after 2 months.

Hm. Here in Tennessee my premiums went up about $80. I called to ask why, and at first the rep seemed to suggest that the state of Tennessee made some legal changes which made the insurance more expensive. The more I questioned, it came out that it was not from the state, but that Progressive had to apply to the state in order to increase the premiums, and that Tennessee had approved the increase.
It's still fairly reasonable, but for having a perfectly clean driving record, I was dismayed that my insurance went up... just because.
