Wow...it was like pulling eye teeth to get an answer on this, but here's the story....

My new 2730 works great BUT....in certain vehicles, the FM modulation output seems a bit low. Frequencies with no usage here that I matched with the Garmin still sound like a distant FM station. Works great with my Sansa MP3 player with FM tuner, but not on all cars.

I contacted Garmin....got a guy who asked that if I post this I leave his name out.

I asked "Hey, has there been an increase in noise from the customers who have bought a 2730 on problems with the FM modulator?" Mr X says "Oh yeah." I ask, "Is there a fix right now?" His answer...."The only fix right now is a refund."

I ask "Are they working on a firmware update (it's actually running a version of GW Linux, but hey....) to increase the output?" He says..."Oh yeah...working night and day on it, but they haven't worked it out yet."

His time frame for this fix is approximately one month. That is something I can live with, but it seems a lot of four wheelers cannot.

Just an FYI to all of you who have bought one, hang in there, they are working on it.

OHHH as an aside....scuttlebutt is that they are also working on getting Nexrad data to display on the 2730. Not confirmed though.

OK, I'm not the smartest turkey when it comes to this stuff but I like it anyway.
So been considering getting a 2730 but I don't have an FM radio, question is will I need one to get the XM reception?

Thanks in advance for your answer (S)

That's a good question. I know it transmits via FM but I don't know if you can pick it up in the audio connector. Charlie... we need the info man.
