View Full Version : J&M CB interface with Garmin 2730?
I have ordered both for my new ST (that I still don't have in my garage!) but wondering if any of you have interfaced the GPS XM with a J&M CB, and if so what did that take.
This group has answered so many of my questions, I just want to let all of you know how grateful I am..
Thanks again.

I'm using the built in XM on my 376C through a J&M CB. There was a lot of alternator whine. But that was easily fixed with a 3.5mm Inline Ground Loop Isolator (http://www.electricalconnection.com/audio/noise-filters.htm).

I just ordered one based on your experience.
Thanks again.

I have interfaced my XM (XM Roady) with my J&M CB2003 and it works great. I think you question is interfacing both the XM and GPS audio with the J&M CB. As you know, the J&M only has one audio input and I do not know if the J&M will handle both the XM and GPS audio simultaneously. I doublt it as one would override the other or the J&M amp might not be sufficient to handle both so you would get no audio at all.
If you want the CB and audio to be totally interfaced such that the CB incoming signal overrides all the audio--XM, radar and GPS--such that the XM and GPS are muted when the CB signal is received, you have to have separate electonic "gates" for the audio signals. These "gates" or "mixers" give the CB signal the highest priority with the other audio signals a lower priority.
I do not know how many of these external "gates" or amplifiers are available for motorcycle or small applications. I believe Mix-it makes one and the one I am using is the XMA^3 (XMA cubed). http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/product.asp?Item=MIXIT

I am not sure how the mix-it audio mixer works. The XMA3 works by integrating multiple devises such as XM, Radar, GPS with the CB amplifier and CB signal/squelch. When listening to XM and a CB signal comes on, the XM is totally muted out of both ears pieces. If listening to XM and GPS audio or radar alert cpmes in at the same time, you can set the plug in so that you can make the radar alert the priority over all or whatever you want to be the prority.
My experience is whenever a GPS audio is added to existing audio, like XM, there will be noise of some sort and ground loop isolator cords will be required.
J&M also now sells an integrater for use with the J&M CB2003. I have no expeience with the J&M product but assumes it will do as advertised.
All the options are not cheap unless you can build a mixer yourself.

With my 376C, I hear both the XM and GPS voice commands. The GPS voice commands override the XM radio. The CB seems to override both.
If at some point, you decide to integrate another device such as a radar detector then you'll need a mix-it device. Otherwise, I'd give the J&M to GPS a try and see if it works for you.

Doesn't JM have a multi-input device already?
Ah, here it is.

And look, mounted to an ST.
