I'm thinking of doing some quality Utah time on the week before WeSTOC, maybe ride through Zion, Cedar Breaks, Bryce, Kodachrome Basin, Capitol Reef, Arches, and Canyonlands. And then maybe visit a niece I have in Grand Junction before getting to Golden on Monday. Then try 550, Durango, and maybe Monument Valley on the way back (assuming the M.V. temperatures aren't too outrageous.

Am I trying to squeeze too much into two weeks? Should I take even more time off? :D

Anyone else interested?

I'm not exactly a fast rider, like to stop for pictures, and snore loudly :22yikes: if you're expecting to save money by sharing rooms! I've never tried camping from the bike, and don't really have lightweight, compact gear for that.

Jim, I'm going but I can't leave until Saturday morning the 2nd. I plan to arrive on Sunday night so I'll be doing some high mileage days. I've done most of the roads/parks you mention. Don't miss hwy 12 between Torry and Escalante - a real ST road. I figure I'll have more time to smell the roses on the way home.

Jim,

I took almost that exact same route while doing an IBA master traveler Nat parks tour.... That ride though Utah is almost spiritual. Just try to keep your eyes on the road when you ride through Capital Reef.

See ya at WeSTOC!

Jim,
I was thinking about doing something similar to what you have planned. When did you plan on leaving?

My plan, as of this writting, is to leave on the 2nd and take 2 days to get to my sisters house in Franktown, then, go to weSToc. Leave the morning after the banquet and be home on Sunday.

I am thinking about buying some gear and :tent6:. I'm guessing this equipment would be paid for with the savings from not staying in a motel.

I've been kind of thinking of taking two weeks vacation, leaving Monday or Tuesday (26th or 27th) before Labor Day weekend. Take my leisure going through Utah, lot's of pictures, etc. Figuring maybe being in Grand Junction Saturday for visiting my niece, etc (thinking it might be easier to get accomodations in town over the holiday). Get over to Golden via a circuitous route in time to check in to WeSTOC on Monday (& visiting my other niece in Aurora). Leave Thursday & back Sunday like you were thinking. Although I suppose I could extend the time after instead (or also for that matter).

Basically I'm trying to only do +500 mile days the first & last days to get over the desert like to St. George. Then do shorter days to relax & enjoy the scenery instead of just racking up the miles. I've never put together multiple +500 mile days in a row so I'm not sure I want to commit to them.

If I'm going to camp I'll really have to get some goodies and try a practice run or two first. And try out my soon to arrrive Garmin 2730!

I'm interested... I would take Interstate 15 to Interstate 70 on in to Golden. Where would you guys doing the same route stay on the way? And could I hook up with some of you doing that route from So. Cal.? How close to ralley date is too late to get a room in Golden? Still thinking about it...
