, I have a quick question I removed my rear tire to grease the splines and I noticed that there was some rust forming around a weld on the right inside of the swingarm picture# 1. I also notice tthat this area has a weep hole to let out condensation? Picture #2. The top of the weld looks like its incomplete and there is a hole about the size of an eraser in the furthest corner. I wire brushed the area and sprayed some rust converter on it. Do you know if this is a defective weld or is this supposed to look like this? I am thinking of putting some kind of sealant on top of the weld seam so no more water and dirt can settle on this and further the rust. Thanks in advance.

Never noticed that on mine but I suspect it is nothing more than a spot with bad paint transference.I would at some point take it down and get it powder coated but what you are doing is very acceptable.

I have seen on other Honda's this effect and it seems they bead was not cleaned well before painting.

Ya made me go look !

My '02 looks like this - welds are exactly the same ... mine are not rusted but they otherwise are exactly like yours ... cleaning them up and spray painting should do the trick .... do the 'wobble test' .... :)

Looks like a bad weld to me, but I have no comparison.
The weld on the right side goes farther around and that hole on the end of the weld on the left looks almost like some of the old weld broke off. But you can see it much better in person.

While you got that tire off make a mud flap out of a antifreeze jug (or something like that) like I did for mine. Keeps the muck out of the swingarm pivot area.

And here's a shot after 9,327 miles with the mud flap installed. Notice how clean it keeps it up in there - it's only dusty, not crud and muck.

I'll think of that next time I get the urge to sneek out the ST before the salt gets washed off these roads. PS Welcome to the site
