Just paid $15 with taxes at my local stealer for one filter. HDL wants $7 but I don't need to order a bunch of stuff to get free shipping.

There are a lot of them. I use WallyWorld's SuperTec #7317... under $3.00. Highly recommended by testers too. This filter is slightly longer than the OEM filter, but all else is spec. It is a very tight fit on the 91 ST1100 due to an oil cooler about 1/2" thick which lives under the oil filter base on the side of the engine. On all the rest of ST 1100 just fine... ST1300 just fine.

I plan on keeping my ST for a while and I'll go through 3 or so filters a year. The last time I ordered three from HDL. This spring I'll order 6 or so. It's nice to have them on the shelf ahead of time. Plus no warrantee worries (whether I need to worry or not). The shipping is only $5.00 in CONUS.

You know you just opened up a can-o'-worms don't you??
I use the PL14610 on my bike and on my CBR1100XX, I am not worried about warranty claims, not a worry wart there as I have never had a Honda motorcycle engine fail on me in the 37 years I have been riding them except for one, a CB450 twin that I ran low on oil and fried the cams but that was my fault and come to think of it they only used centrifical filtration then.
I worry more about the air filtration than the oil as I live in a high silica environment and that ST sucks some volumes of air.Windy season is just around the corner and we get some hellacious winds carrying tons of sand.

I have used KN-204 for 5 years on my motor bikes, I am very satisfied.
+1 on the Puralator Pure One. A little bit longer in size, but half the cost. Many claim it's the best-engineered oil filter available, but as any motorcyclist knows, we can debate oil forever. :box1:
FWIW, I've been using the Pure One for about a year now, and the ST still runs like the champ that it was on the OEM filters.

Yep. Same problem with determining the best fluid for the blinkers, air for the tires etc etc :biker:

HA! You got that right! What's your favorite polish? Pledge? Wax? :D

The point is the few dollars involved ....
You own a 1st class sport tourer and are whining about a few dollars for something as essential as the OIL FILTER ? .... good grief !
Try owning a Ducati ... $800 for a valve adjustment .... owning a Duc is like dating an Italian Supermodel ! ... and in fact it is :)
With semi-synth my oil changes come to $60.- CDN and that's ok with me.
In comparison to the Duc, owning a Honda is like dating the girl next door ... she puts out, looks good, costs a reasonable amount ... it's just that not every single guy is drooling over her every time you go out :)

Well, I'm still waiting for my bike to get here so I have been looking at what I can get for it. One of the items I found that fits this quest is from Scott's Performance Products (http://www.scottsperformance.com/index.php).

They're not exactly cheap but you only have to buy one.
UPDATED:
I picked mine up today and they have made a couple of slight modifications. They are now anodized dark grey, last ring/fin milled to accept filter wrench which they include, Vector Part # 17070 - 3/8" drive. The filter used to be held to the housing by a spiral ring but now simply locks into slots and recesses in housing.

I've noticed more and more mfgs are listing ST1300-specific filters in their catalogs....Purolater, Fram (Be Afraid....Very Afraid!), NAPA, plus the Hi-Flo, and other motorcycle-only makes. I picked up a NAPA Gold last week and will run it when I change my oil later this week.
My feeling is that if a mfg. has the confidence to actually list the fitment in their catalogue, you aren't running a serious gamble.

Amsoil make an excellent oil filter for bikes that I have used for years....

Hey, What is the # for the NAPA Gold filter? That's what I use for ALL my vehcles any more, just haven't seen anything better for the money.

The popular NAPA gold application is the #1358, but the photos depict a white filter element and the one I just put on is a black canister. Let me take a look underneath the bike and see what the number is. I know it was listed for the ST1300 in the NAPA application book.

If it was listed in the mfg's catalog I'd feel safe using it, if not, even if "recommanded" on someones web page, no way. But I use OEM Honda, my dealer , Excel Motorsports charges $6.00 for one and I use three a year. so nine extra bucks a year, and I keep my receipts so I know theres not gonna be a warrenty problem. If your Honda dealer is charging $15 (US or Canadian ?) find a new dealer.

I put on 3k miles a month just going to work. So last fall when HDL (http://www.hondadirectlineusa.com/stores/index.asp?str=10) had a sale I just purchased my supplies for the next year. I have enough oil filters, air filter, spark plugs and brake pads to last me till their next sale.
Buy smart and save money.

Ditto... had a Duc for a few of the same years I had my ST11... on avaerage put at least 8, if not 12X more milage on the ST, and the Duc still cost me probably about 4X as much to own (just maint.) during that time. I do miss how she purred though.... hmmmm. Italian super model is right on man!
As for the thread... Pure One all the way.

Geeze...go to HDL and order 6 or more OEM filters. Honda makes good filters and I don't see the need to use another brand.
K&N are good filters and I do like the 17mm nut they have on the base making for easy install and removal. But they cost as much if not more than the OEM filters. Not worth that just for a 17mm nut.
I hear the Super Tech filters are good but, to me...on my brand new 13k bike, saving four dollars per filter just isn't worth it to risk engine damage.
