Well just playing show and tell. I noticed that the MCL risers, although they allow you to mount a diamond rammount, do not allow you to screw in a rammount ball most likely because rammount does not offer a rammount ball with metric threads at least that I could find.
So Earache set me up with a couple 1/4"x20 taps. Now I have two more spots for farkle mounts. ;) Thanks Eric. Great job!
And FINALLY the pillion shelf brackets I ordered are here. YIPPEE!! These are the foundation for a luggage rack that I'm trying desperately trying to design. I'm looking for width recommendations at this point.

Curt,
How are those brackets going to work? Will the pillion remain in place or be removed?
I also am looking for some way to mount a luggage rack that will utilize the pillion area, preferably with the seat in place. The whole thing needs a hard point forward around the rear of the riders seat. Even if it were just a tiedown point for bungies or straps it would be an improvement.
I know that you have been working on this project for a while, I may have missed a post that explicated these brackets.

Hey Dick,
Well I started with this solution:

It wasn't that great but it did the trick.
Here's a small rack from Turbo City Tom:

Here's a page on the rack that my brackets are for. I didn't order the rack. I just ordered the brackets and the small tabs that go on the rack plate of the bike. That way I can make my own. You can see in the pictures where the brackets go.

Roy Fletcher is the manufacturer. His contact info is on the top of the page. It took some emails to convince him to sell just the brackets but he did sell them to me. They cost me $100 + $5 for shipping and handling.

Curt - Now that you have those brackets, let me know what ya need as far as a rack goes - I'm sure we could whip something up that'd both look good and be very functional.
Are the brackets that you got powdercoated or just painted? Steel or aluminum?
I wish I had access to a 1300, making the brackets would be a piece of cake, but damned near impossible without having a bike in front me to take measurements from.

It will be interesting to see what you come up with.

I'm having a hard time deciding on dimensions. Because of the way I'm designing it I could just do a pillion piece and add the other part later.
I really could use someone here to help sort out the size issue. The other piece of this is that I have to come up with legs from the rack to the pillion brackets.

They're steel and they're powder coated.

I order to get these brackets without the shelf I promised him that I would not be making copies of them so for my sake please don't attempt to duplicate the design. You have no idea what I went through to get these things.

Absolutely not - I never copy stuff that others have done, so no worries there. I was just interested in making a custom rack that would go on top of the brackets.
I asked about the coating as I could powder it for you if it were just sprayed on - but no need to do that if it's already coated

Ok cool.
The distance between the centers of the bolt holes on the brackets are 15.25". I'm debating if the rack should be any wider than that. The other piece of course is still how to fasten the two pieces together if that's what I'm going to do. Honestly I haven't really seen this done and so maybe it's not a smart idea. I'm hoping if it isn't too cold this weekend I'll have some time to at least get a piece of foamcore board on there and start sketching out a design that's flexible to add a rear piece later if I need it.
I had consider getting rid of the Givi for rallies and add a pelican box that could work more like a desk surface for route planning.
