Am new to a 91 ST 1100. in past had excellent mileage and handling on ME 880 tires. Is athere a pair of 880s that will fit the 91 ST11. Advice appreciate.

There's a rear 160/70 x 17" size available but no matching front in the correct size. Most team the 880 with a front Z4 or Z6. The ST1100, in my experience (10 years and 149K) tolerates mixing radials and bias tires ok, but I liked the results better with matched sets. I think the best set for this bike are the OEM Bridgestone Exedras, G547 front and G548 rear. If you must have radials, consider the Avon Azaro AV 45 and 436 STs.
People whi use the Excerdrda seem to like them.
There is now a rear Z6 in the right size. I used a set of these in the 120/170 sizes and they were good, but only got 10,000kms out of them. The Avons I am using now are a better tyre allround for me, and look like lasting a lot longer. I have 6000kms on them at the moment and they look barely run in.

Jim, My experience so far is limited to the Bridgestones that were fitted to the two '03 press bikes I had, the Dunlops that came on my bike and the Avons I'm running now. I like the Avons best so far, the OEM 'stones second and hated the OEM Dunlops. I'm tempted to try the 'stones again or maybe the Michelins. The mileage reports on the Metzelers are not encouraging and I've not liked previous generation Metzlers on my 1100 due to an unstable feeling in turbulent air. The front Avon has a bit of a strange side to side wobble at walking speeds when the tire is cold that I think is due to the front tread design, otherwise I'm reasonably satisfied with these tires. I've got about 8K on them now and it looks like I can make 9K easily and maybe even 10K, so tread life appears acceptable. Of all the manufacturers I've had experience with on various bikes, it seems that Bridgestone tires have the best consistency and highest build quality. That's great if you like the handling characteristics. I loved the Excedras for the 1100 - wish they made them to fit the 13!
TD,
Now I can use the incorrect comment I made on the 880s for the ST1300:
I've heard the bias 880 is a slab sided truck tire with great mileage.
So dicide what kind of riding you do:
Get the Excedras or the Avons if you live in an area with twists.
Get the z6/880 if you just want mileage.
I have had hmmm... 4 sets? of Avons on my ST1100, and have another set waiting to go on. I get over 11000 miles on the Avons and change the front out whether it needs it or not when I change the rear.
The Avons do not have a yellow-dot at the heavy spot.
I read of someone who found it needed more weight than he liked when mounting, so he unmounted it and spun it on the rim and it took barely any weight...

Mark, that was my impression of the 880 on the ST1100 as well. That tire and the old ME33 / ME55 combo made the bike steer slowly and heavily. Felt like I was driving a damned trash truck. Some folks like them but I suspect they don't do much work in the twisties.

---just put a Pirelli STRADA 110/80-18 on my ST1100 and it turns in nicely with good accuracy and does not have that coast down wobble that was present with the original EXCEDRA. (that tire however was a '00 date of manufacture)
---like it so far and I have a Bridgestone 020 (BMW spec 48 psi) ready to go on the rear. (could'nt find a rear STRADA in 160/70)
---will report back after some miles
Cheers

----added the BT 020 "M" to the rear.----WOW!! smooth--no more howl in curves. (79w weight rating @48psi--BMW K1200LT replacement)
Cornering is extremely neutral, accurate and effortless. A huge improvement over the old EXCEDRAS. But any new tire would probably an improvement.
Will hope for good mileage and will post later.
