What's the most over the speed limit you have ever been writen a ticket for while riding ANY motorcycle?

FYI - This is my first attempt at posting a poll. Not sure if this will work for me.

Ticketed for 108, but it was reduced to 70 in a 60 when I went to court.

I voted 50 - but that was kilometres/hr.. Within a year of Canada going metric, mid-70's ?, I was heading for Toronto. BMW R75/5. Somewhere between Edmunston, N.B. and Rivierie-du-Loup, Que. - on our wonderful 2 lane, through farm country, Trans Canada highway, got pulled over by the Quebec Provincial Police. I informed that I was doing 130 km/hr in an 80 zone. I apoligized and told the nice French officer that my bike was in miles per hour and could he translate that for me. He politely pulled off his hat, looked inside where he obviously had a converstion chart and told me that I was going 80 mph. in a 50 mph. zone. Thanked him for verifying my speedometer, because that's what I had been crusing at. He wouldn't buy my confusion with the metric and imperial systems and I ended up graciously accepting the ticket. Shoot... just remembered that I don't think I ever paid that. What would the interest be over 25-30 years?

:yr1:

Last year I was tagged for 90 in a 70. Total fine $67, non-moving violation, no dmv points, no insurance... Nevada rural speed law.

Timing was good, doing 134 (actual) an hour earlier.

last one I got was on the NYS Thruway for 15 or so over about 12-13 years ago? Many in the 20-70 over range avoided since then by dropping 2 and letting her howl... if they believe your willing to run, then generally (in my case never) don't bother to even turn around. If they did I wouldn't beg handcuffs by following through, but so far the bluff has always worked... just knocked on wood ;)

No tickets on this ST as yet, but almost 40 years ago I got nailed for 121 in a 65 mph zone on a Ducati Diana 250... (it was a former road racer)

I'm almost embarrassed to say that I've never received a speeding ticket. Which isn't to say I've never speeded - I do. I must have luck or good timing or both - no radar detector and no speeding tickets in 25 years of driving. This wasn't a poll option though. Surely there must be others in this boat? Please - LoL!? :p:

I too would like to see "No Tickets So Far" included on the poll. Would be kind of neat to compare the two. So, that said.... I have not had a ticket ever on a bike (holy horseshoes batman..../me looks for nearest piece of wood) and hope to keep it that way LOL.

+18 was the biggest I was ever ticketed for, but there was one ride in Tucson...

I was 2-up with a friend from my dorm and we were headed North on First/Euclid ave - right where it bends for anyone familiar - at night. I was +50 and the LEO was going the other way. I flipped off the headlight, ducked through an alley, and into a parking lot and we watched him speed by with our helmets off. He came back a few minutes later and interrogated us, but my plate didn't match the one he had read to his dispatcher - not even close - so he had to let us go.

If anyone here happens to be that officer... umm - sorry? I really don't speed like that anymore - I slowed down a lot since I got the ST. And I would never run these days.

In 1972 I passed 3 CHP units one night at an indicated 120mph on a 750 Kawasaki Tripple when I was 16 (never saw any of them :banghead:). After a long *** chewing along side the freeway they wrote me for 90 in a 65. My parents then took my license and bike for a month and the judge fined me 50 bucks.

2 tickets on a motorcycle. 65 in a 60 zone(in Ohio) and 91 in a 75 zone while passing a truck in Texas (I thought i was in Oklahoma). The latter was significantly reduced when I called the courthouse.

The guy that gave me the 65 in a 60 ticket did so because he pulled me over not long before that incident (triple digits in a 65 zone) and let me go.

I've never gotten a ticket while driving a Motorcycle - although I almost got one for being caught on a closed road (I had to see what was taking CalTrans so long to fix!).

I got a ticket on my Bicycle once though. :D

And I never got a ticket putting over 100,000 miles on my red Mustang GT. Although they got on their PA with me twice and let me off! :a13:

But my last ticket was for making an illegal u-turn after picking up the mail at my vacationing parents' house. The stupid thing was I lived there for 15 years, knew the spot where the LAPD Motor Cops hang out, and had seen the motor pull someone over right in front of the house as I was picking up the mail! Can you say "brain fart"?

Never got a speeding ticket on the bike. Was stopped by a county sheriff for going too fast on a country road. But he did not know how fast, as he had no radar. : confused: We were doing 115mph on a 55mph country road in eastern Colorado on a sunny November day. My buddy on a 85 FJ1100 and I on my old 92 ST1100. The Sheriff even ask us how fast we were going. Never told him. Just answered "as fast as the conditions will allow". ;) Been stopped quite a few more times. Once on my KLR650:eek:

There is a time and place to go fast and a time and place not to go fast. The key is to know the difference.

Why isn't there a poll option for never got a speeding ticket? That would be my setting... which in a country with a speed camera around almost every corner is seems, is remarkable.

Amazingly no tickets as yet. Have done 126 mph on my other bike. Have done 160 mph on my friend's. Just good fortune so far.
Am a little worried about the ST (taking delivery soon) as everyone talks about how smooth it is and how often you don't even realize the speed you're going. Going to have to watch this.

So far I've been lucky (knock on wood). Maggie and I were doing the North Cascades' Loop last fall with 3 other riders, got pulled over and should have gotten nailed for 20-30 over, but the officer was really decent and just "gave us the group lecture." We're getting ready to shift gears and do more distance riding so it's only a matter of time.

Yesterday......on my way home......88 in a 65 in PA. The cop was really nice and reduced it to Failure to obey a traffic control. He explained that the traffic control he was refering to was the posted speed limit sign and that he filled in the remarks area that he got me at 88 in a 65 and that if I should contest the ticket, he will be changing it to 88 in a 65. He told me that what he did cuts the ticket amount in half and no points...no insurance increase....just money. He asked me if I was freezing. I said "No, but I wanna get home before I do".

By the way, in PA a $25 fine costs $106 after all the legal/court fees and taxes!

1986. 48 in a 25 (school zone) at 3 AM! Milpitas CA. On a V65 Sabre.

More recently:

2002. Warning for 68 in a 45 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. ST1100. Ranger was angry at first, but settled down and gave me a stern lecture.

2004. 48 in a 35 near Charlotte Court House, VA. Wee-Strom. The trooper had received a phone call describing my one-at-a-time passing of four cars in double yellows westbound on VA 40. Trooper was angry. long story. Judge dismissed if I would take an MSF ERC course.

October 2004. Warning for 70 in a 55 near Shady Valley TN. Sherriff was polite and warned me about some construction ahead.

August 2006. Warning for two double yellow passes on CA 120. ST1300. Trooper was angry and twitchy. Hand stayed near sidearm throughout our encounter.

No tickets yet, but that is not due to a lack of trying:D My worst was going 115 uphill at Copper Mtn on a group demo ride on a Trumph Rocket. I was towards the back. That is a fun bike.

Being bikeless for less then one year (presently) since 1968 and unlike everyone else, I am proud to say I have never even been pulled over on a motorcycle. Not that I didn't deserve it.

Most Stupid Act: Passed a NJ state trooper on I 287 in NJ at well over 100 miles an hour on a 93 Gold Wing SE. By the time I saw him it was way too late. Radar detector went off but I kept my hand in it. Got off the next exit and found a good hiding place for a few hours. Snuck home in the dark.

Used to take my Yamaha RT2 360 and put the front wheel on the truck lid of the pretty girl in front of me at a red light. Used to get a lot of dinner dates, and a few repair bills too, this way. I was desperate back then. Never had to deal with the cops though.

A few others, lawn tear ups, punched windows of stupid drivers, ect... But never a cop involved with a motorcyle other then the wreck with the drunk driver.

Should I quit while I'm ahead?

No tickets. :) Only one warning. I was going cross-Canada (Halifax, N.S to Edmonton, Alta.) in 1975 on a 1969 Honda 750. Pipes were "shorties" which were supposed to give me a few extra horses but were real loud. Came around a long bend, saw flashing lights on the side of the road, checked speed as 80 in a 60 zone ( I was going faster before the bend), braked quickly and pulled in easily behind the RCMP cruiser. The officer said he heard me coming from miles away, and it sounded like I was going pretty fast, which is why he pulled me over, but he didn't get my speed. I pointed out the pipes and he gave me a warning to keep my speed down.

Over the years, just plain lucky, I quess.

I thought ST stood for Speeding Ticket- right after I got my ST I was written up for 76 in a 55. I just went to renew my Tn license, and they wouldn`t renew it, a ticket I got 31 years ago in Maine on my 750 showed up. I passed a group of cars, one of them was a fat cop in an unmarked car, he wrote me up for "Failure to return right", I paid the fine, But Maine just got a new computer system that is showing up all these old tickets, paid or not. I got caught in Flagstaff area going to the Grand Canyon doing 103 in a 55. The cop was in a jeep, but saw me getting gas by the park entrance. Nice ticket. Speeding only, no reckless, no evading, no go to jail, no do not collect 200 dollars.
Actually, it was more like pay 300 dollars or go to jail, but you know what I mean.
Then on the way back to my car in Flagstaff, I hit something in the road (never saw what) and bent my front rim so badly, it had to be replaced. That was an expensive trip. $$$$$

Last ticket on a motorcycle was in 2005 for 81 mph in a 55 mph in a federal park....so the points didnt go onto my PA license. Last ticket prior to that on a bike was probably around 1983 for doing 70-something in the 35 mph Big Thompson Canyon of Colorado trying to beat a snowstorm out of Estes Park area. No amount of pleading due to the pending snowstorm would get me a break. I am without a doubt, lucky on a bike. Usually, the speeds I travel on a bike will earn me a nice big fat 4 pt. plus ticket, but my bike ticket record is pretty darn good I would say for the way I ride.

Now, the stupid car is another story...latest ticket was just last week for 71 mph in a 55 mph (he cut me a break as he had me a 88 mph). 4 pts for that one, unless of course I go to court which I will. Freaking car gets me a ticket every 3 years like clockwork and they are usually for 20+ mph over the posted limit. I gotta lose the car.

Last easter weekend I took my wonderful ST for a 1600km round trip to Brisbane (Australia) The only time in the entire 1600 kilometers that I decided to give the bike a quick blast (and I mean quick, it was a straight about 2 km long) it was the same place that a highway patrol M/cycle cop had his radar:( ) He had an identical ST1100, we checked each others bike out, compared tyres, etc and then he proceeded to write me up for doing 154km in a 100km zone (I was actually doing 180km when he pulled out to stop me  ) that cost me $700 and an automatic 6 month loss of license. My lawyer thinks I have a good chance to appeal the loss of license but the fine will stand. That was the first traffic offence of any kind in 15 years, oh well I think all the things I got away with over those years finally caught up with me.

I haven't had a ticket on motorbikes since 1989 and I don't have a radar detector. I like to ride back roads where possible.

Here in NZ if you get caught 40% over the limit it's a big instant fine plus the cops will confiscate your bike (for 28 days) on the spot. They call up a tow truck and your walking home.

We also have to contend with portable, hidden speed cameras. However you just have to keep an eye out for toyota vans parked on the road side. The cameras are in the vans. There just revenue collectors, to put it mildly.

As "hooliganish" as I sometimes get, I have never gotten a ticket while riding a bike. I generally do not obey speed limits  . But, I do obey the conditions, whether it's traffic, or the weather, or how I feel. So from that respect, I look at speed limit signs as mere "suggestions". Sometimes, albeit not often, I will find myself riding below the "suggested" speed limit signs..., again, depending on the conditions. I just have way too much fun being a hooligan than to follow and "obey" rules all the frickin' time :f2: . I have to admit that riding a "naked" bike does this to me every time, that is, brings out the darker side of my riding  . I've had many bikes, my most recent before the ST1300 was a Yamaha Warrior, all souped up. And before that, a Suzuki Bandit 1200, all souped up. My current mojo to satiate my dark side is my Harley Street Rod. It's on the way to getting souped up. I generally ride it beyond most conservative levels, mostly on back roads and such. I look forward to getting out on the track someday. Fewer limitations there. :D

Never got one on a bike. Picked up my most recent one in a car (the minivan, no less) in a dash to get to the dealer before Saturday closing so I could pick up the bike - otherwise it would've been locked up until Tuesday. The officer was sympathetic, and only wrote me up for 5 over.

I have only had one in my life, 75 in a 45 Blue Ridge Parkway "02" 50 dollar fine if paid on time, no points, no evidence of it ever happening as far as insurance goes. I guess because it was a federal park? I threw my hand up at a friend of mine going the other direction in a curve and the Ranger (who was following him) did a uey. My BUDDY shook my hand when he saw me back in WV! Now when I ride the BRP I keep it at 50.

I got a 46 in a 35 with my 04 honda sabre. I thought the speed limit was 45. i was pulled over on the same bike for having aftermarket lights that weren't technically legal. I think the cop and i talked for 20 minutes on the side of the road. he was close to my age (Early 20's) and he saw the punisher logo i had on the bike. so the coversation was about comic books and moved on to various things from our childhoods. it was kinda funny when you realize we were just standing there in front of his car blocking a lane of traffic just talking.

I think the more appropriate question should be how long it took before you lost your motorcycle license? :sbike1:

I have got to get that Cruise Control installed or I will be lucky to have a license by the end of the year.:banghead:
