I am ready to order a mount for my GPS and I would like to also order a mount for my HAM radio which I will be using as well. I was planning to order the Garmin Motorcycle mount for my Quest 2 and the RAM U-bolt mount and a 5.25" arm. I would mount the U-bolt dead center on my handlebars with the arm coming straight up and the GPS positioned centered between the risers of my helibars.
I am trying to decide if I want to mount my HAM radio (a Yaesu VX-7R) between the handlebars as well or have it mounted to either the clutch or brake reservoir. I think it would be cluttered if I put it with the GPS. Does anyone have pictures of their GPS/radio installs that they would like to share to help me make up my mind? Preferably on a bike with helibars.
Thanks,
Tom

Hi. The expert on this subject is NM6R..I'm sure he will answer your questions. Do you have it preset to certain repeaters?

Not yet. I got it a week ago and I'm still trying to figure out all of the functions. I'm going to get the programming cable and VX-7R Commander to program it. I'm also trying to decide if I want to go with an amplifier and an external antenna or not. That would compromise the waterproofing, but until the repeater is installed in our town, 5W isn't much.

Not a brilliant picture!
Icom PMR handheld is mounted on the right brake housing which can quickly be changed to my Kenwood dual band handheld, the new plate was purchased from motorcyclelearry.com complete with the ball.
I then got the mounting plate which is standard and put that one a small ram mount assembly. Ran all cables back to the Autocom unit and the antenna coax to the antenna mount situated on a bracket under the rear carrier.
The Garmin is mounted on top of the dash so is right in the line of my sight, and the gizzmo on the left side of the bars is the Honda RDS radio.

Pictures show the bracket mounted underneath the carrier. Sorry about the quality of the pics, but hope they help you to get things sorted.

I fabricated a bracket for the clutch reservoir clamp for my VX7R.

The radio just slides onto the bracket. The two rubber feet put friction on the back of the radio to hold it in place. It's worked quite well in this location as the antenna is vertical and I can get to the controls.

I'll just share some pics of some of my stuff to see if it sparks any ideas.

Good stuff, guys. I like Tricky Micky's setup for the radio. I had been looking at the RAM mount that attaches to the brake housing. It keeps it out of the way and the antenna up and I shouldn't be messing with it much while moving, other than to change freqs.
What are you all using for external amps/antennas if any?

Tom.
No external amps here, just the power from the radio which is 5 watts max. Ant. is a Watson dual band whip for 2 and 70cms which I am still testing on the bike.
