I juST picked up a pair of HotSpots (http://froogle.google.com/froogle_cluster?q=HotSpots+Convex+Wedge&pid=2312082119270301551&oid=7394350254336100827&btnG=Search+Froogle&oi=froogler&scoring=mrd&hl=en) mini convex wedge mirrors from AutoZone for only about $5.50 for the pair and stuck them on the stock mirror set. These things actually look pretty cool  and MAN do they help to see all those cagers around you. - All in all, I'd say its a cheaper alternative to the multivex mirrors.

I'm always window shopping at AutoZone. These mirrors were low in stock last week (only one left). They just resupplied thier shelves a couple of days ago and I got lucky.

I appreciate the info. I hadn't quite bought into the mulitvex mirror thing... but I may check these out.

IMO, I think they work great!!!! . . . And look good too.

I have the same ones except I stuck them in the upper, inner corner of each mirror. If you look at your photos, you can see that these portions of the regular mirrors are useless anyway. Might as well turn that space into something worthwhile.

I was wondering the same thing...

Thanks,

I'll try to re-stick them in the inner corners.
Hopfully it can be done without ruining the tape. Any suggestions on best ways to do it?

You will likely ruin the tape, but try passing some fishing line behind them.

Jeff,
You were right. I took the bike in to work this morning and there is definately wasted space in the top inner corners where the wedge mirrors should go. I should of thought of this before. - Thanks for pointing this out.

BC Rider,
Thats a good idea you have with the fishing line. I've got some 6lb test in my tacklebox. I'll give it a try. - Thanks!

I got'em at Autozone on the bypass. I got the last two that they had, but they also have them at O'Rileys.

As far as the name...

As I remember it, we (wife and I) had just loaded up the Valk to head out to Panama City Beach (could be another destination, but I think it was PCB). It was drizzling rain. For some reason or another, I just looked over my shoulder and asked her, "Are you ready, Fred?". She replied, "Ready when you are, Elmo." The names both stuck. I have no idea why those particular names popped into our head. Ever since then, it's been Elmo and Fred. :)

Finally got them on today, upper inside corner. Looks like they're going to work just fine. I'll be interested to see how they perform at night.

Later,

I am gonna go and get a set tomorrow because I had that feeling and looked over my shoulder to see the idiot crossing two lanes at once only slowing as he almost took off my right bag. Then he intentionally ran the left turn red light to get into the 7-11. Maybe he was giving birth!

I picked up a set at Autozone for $3.69. Seem to be helpful. I noticed yesterday that I could loose a whole "Crown Vic" in my blind spot, but the CV showed up in the hot spots even b4 I saw the funny writing on the door. Fortunately, this LEO was just passing me (How did that happen).

I bought a new pair and put them in the upper-inner corners this time.

They're really good for those blind spots or (Hot Spots), like the name says, and regaining some peripheral vision lost when wearing a helmet. It's especially good for helping to avoid surprises while your minding your lane. However, I don't feel it should be, in any way, used as a replacement for turning your head when changing lanes or whatever. The image is pretty small and is only good for things that are close and not moving up fast from behind you. - With that said, I think if you're a safety conscious rider, it's worth every penny and more. :)

Upper inner corner, but does the high end of the wedge go on the inboard or outboard edge?

Inboard edge.

Inboard edge.

Now that I have one of the mirrors in hand, I offer myself a resounding "duh" for that last question. :o:

I put my PepBoy specials on the lower inside corner. They work great there too! :cop2:

Took a quick 40 miles at lunch today with these wedge convex mirror installed. They're great. The spot where they are mounted (upper inside corner) is otherwise useless real estate (a view of the bars and my hands). Now it's a great shot of the blind spot, plus I still have the stock mirrors' undistorted view behind. I will continue to use the screw in accessory mirror system I made when I pack for camping, but for day trips or hotel/B&B rides this new set up should work great.

I was thinking of putting some at the middle of the inner edge of the mirrors - right where my grips show up.
