View Full Version : ST1100 Batteries at Wal-Mart
For what it is worth, while at Wally world tonight, went
thru the automotive section, stopped at the battery
display. For the heck of it, checked to see if they had
any batteries for the ST1300.. Nothing listed BUT they
did have a listing for the 1100... Had em in stock too..
around 60 bucks or so...

I put a Walmart battery in my ST several years ago. Had to do some customizing on the bikes positive lead to get it to fit on the battery post...

I used a WalMart battery in my old 1100. Was still going strong after a couple of years when I sold the bike.

OK. Stupid question of the day: where is the battery located on a '95 ST1100? Beat. Beat. Beat. Just tell me. I took the seat off & didn't see it immediately. What else do I need to remove? :bow1: :bow1: :bow1: And I'm ready to take whatever abuse I must receive just to get the info (rather than have the bike towed in, just to get a charge when I can tickle charge the thing myself, if I can find the battery!)
I'll now go through the forums & see the protocol on 1st posts. If an intro before 1st post is appropriate, I apologize in advance.
hmmm... now I have to decide how cruel I *need* to be... :D naw...
Pull the seat.
Left side (clutch side) panel below the seat has a phillips head screw that needs to be removed.
Pull the handle out and pull the panel out of the 2 holding grommets (watch for the little o-ring around the seat lock key receptacle, it will try to disappear).
I think you'll figure out the rest...
If you do go to Wally's World pick up the Schmacher (sp?) battery tender ($17 locally), it comes with clips and a nice perm mount pigtail that can be installed cleanly and tucked under the edge of the seat when not in use. :cool:

Thank you, Mark.
I anticipated a good ribbing; instead, you were a gentleman with your response. :)

What brand are they? (Midly relevant, what with only about 5 battery manufacturers in the US, producing under numerable names.)

Stock battery is Yuasa Battery YTX14-BS. I ordered one and a Battery Tender Jr for $23 last week, should be here tomorrow.

Just picked up a Wal-mart battery late tonight because I couldn't get to the dealer before they closed, get back and have the new one quick charged before they closed the park where I was parked. (It's been hard starting for a week, and I just put off checking the battery one day too long.) Anyway, it fit without much fiddling in my '91 - had to use the bolts and nuts that came with the battery to attach the cables, but other than that it was fine.

"My" Walmart is about 30 mins away in Renton, WA. I called the auto dept, actually got a human being on the phone to look it up. Either they stopped carrying it or she just missed it in the book.
Could anyone who has one of these be kind enuf to reply with the "walmart" model # ? This may make it easier for the girl at wally world to find if I call back...
thanks mucho !

hey, john...model # for the st1100 is a 14BS...not a joke!...i replaced weak battery couple weeks ago with this walmart model#...(box for battery states it is the one for st1100)...had no problem getting battery on bike...after wrestling anxiously with the left panel that has to be "popped" of bike with those tabs on back of panel...hate that part as it seems touchy to me as to how much flex the panel can take before a fatigue crack!...be patient & it comes out...be sure to put a remote charging outlet on battery as well when replacing...so panel does not have to be taken off again for charging...run it up under seat!...good luck...hope this helps a bit...

Hey Silver - thanks a lot for the info ! That will surely help when I call again... I've got my 'remote' charger connection all ready to go. I agree , I don't like to remove that side cover, either..

hey, john,...a quick follow-up thought...when installing the remote coupling for charging under seat...i used electrical plastic split cable "loom" sold in walmart/auto stores to protect the "hot" wire (postive) from chaffing on the metal frame as wires get snaked up-under seat pan...i would hate to be witness to a total short-out going down road!...take care...silverbub...where silver/dusty bike(the st13) still looks good from 6ft away!...the st1100 is a '97 & in some ways enjoyed even more than the 03 silver...:03biker: :) :biker: :) :)

I haven't had to change the battery in my ST, yet, but the other 3 have Wally's batteries in them. For me, is close (10 mi) convenient, and they have a chance of having the one. On my Venture I had to drill the center cap to accept the level probe, but no problem at all. I'm pretty sure I'll use the Walter World battery when I need one for the ST.

This is a repeat, but the box says EverStart Power Sport battery, and the model is ES14BS. Fit my '91 with no modification.
Unrelated note - I see that Walmart has the Garmin 2720 for sale online. Haven't compare prices yet.

I got the battery at walnart for $62. It fit in perfectly but in order to get the top bracket secured I had to remove that round rubber "bumper" from the top of the bracket - no biggie..
thanks !

I LUV it when I can teach the newbies a trick or two.
FirST, the "Wally World" (or K-Mart, or Sams, or local lawn equipment service store) battery is primarily for a lawn tractor. Don't go to the auto department to look for it. STick currently has a Wally World battery and it works ok.
Second, the left (and right, if ya delete the reference to the grab handle) plaStic panel removal and reinSTall goes like this:
Remove the seat;
Remove the Phillips head screw;
Pull out (90o) on the grab handle.
Pull the panel free from the three (3) grommets;
(on the left side, be sure to retain the O-ring that fits around the seat latch lock)
See the battery? (Left side only)
NOW, the important part, the reinSTall:
1. On the FRONT of the panel (left and right) push the peg into the rubber grommet WITHOUT trying to fit the lower corner into its groove
(#1 ABOVE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT part of this epiSTle.)
2. NOW, while holding the panel close to its final position, hit the lower front corner of that panel with the heel of yur hand while simultaneously bending the rear edge of the panel outward. It'll pop right into place. The awkward part of this process is on the left side, cause ya gotta simultaneously pull the helper handle out to 90o, AND keep that O-ring in the proper relation to the seat lock. It can be done, I've done it many times.
The right side is much easier but only needs to be done when looking at the rear brake resevoir/peddle and/or the coolant tank. Delete the references to the assiST handle and the set lock o-ring.
