Okay, here's my thing. I don't mind the stock bars on my '01 ST1100. Actually I like everythign about them, except that I know I lean a bit forward. This isn't bad for a couple of hour ride, but after that I can't keep using the legs and back to hold me up. I've done a 4 hour ride with no issues, no "pain" as it were, but I did know that I had a lot more weight on my wrists than I'd prefer.

My gameplan for the Spring, assuming it comes here someday, is to continue to ride with the stock and to give them a chance. But I'm pretty convinced that I want some kind of riser or helibar setup.

Anyone deal with Sampson? (http://www.sampson-sporttouring.com/) They have both 1" and 2" risers. I'm not sure how much lift a 1" riser would give me, would I even notice it? I'm leaning toward the 2" riser figuring that'd give me more up and some back. Oh, I'm 5'8 and I think my sleve length is 30".

The other option is to replace the stocks with Helibars. I know two ST1100 riders who have the Helibars for the bike and they like them. I've never seen the bars in person tho to know if I'd like their look or anything. But I do know the Heli's would give me up to a 3" movement.

So, what I'm looking for from this good group is thoughts and comments. WHen dealing with an ST1100 what do Risers give you compared to Heli? WHat do the Heli's give you? Any thoughts on which is better for my situation?

Thanks in advance.

The Honda Rancher ATV (03 or 04 model year) handlebars are nearly identical to the BMW K-75 bars I had on my ST1100. They are around 2.5 or 3" up and back. Very comfy. I took the BMW bars off because the diameter was a tad smaller than the OEM Honda bars and I had to use black tape as shim material to keep the bar controls tight to the bars. The Honda Rancher ATV bars would not have this problem as they are the same diameter. AND, they are around $40 from the STealer. Cheaper than Heli's (and not as ugly) and the risers either one.

I recently installed Police bar risers on my ST. See here for pics. http://community.webshots.com/album/547922785dkRUvV The Police risers are about the same rise as the popular "flip-clip" mod but a little more expensive.

Take note that either way you will have to modify (trim the ears off) the stock bar cover - IF you still want to use it. The plastic bar cover retails for just over $200 (NOT a misprint) from the STealer. Best bet is to pick one up on eBay or from another ST'er for cheap, like I did, to keep from cutting up your stock cover.

I have a 91 ST and I liked the position of the stock risers and I sat in a slight forward position. I wanted to go back a bit so I bought the Samson 2" units. easy to mount and no need to change cables. sitting position now is perfect for me. good luck.
