So, after about 40,450 smooth and comfortable miles it is time to get a new rear tire...... (yes, the tire got mounted backwards... hopefully, the new one will get mounted right)

Good run on that tire spiderman302. Here's my first of the BFG tire and the second I just put on. I made 44,400 on this tire and I think it's the best handling car tire I've ran on the ST1300.

I tried to keep the pressure at 26 psi.

Not to brag too much but it appears I was able to ride a few more curves than you did!!

Yes you do run them harder in the corner. At the lower tire pressures the tire works better, more comfort, more traction, more comfort, better handling, more comfort. better flotation on soft dirt or sand. I really noticed the difference when I had the loaner bike when mine was in the shop. I really got beat up. When I got my bike back I could not believe how comfortable the ST1300 is and the CT really makes a great bike better. Only those who ride the darkside knows what I am talking about... it is like floating on air. Bumpy road -- what bumpy road?

I think I will drop to 26 psi for my new tire and see how it goes.....

There is a maximum pressure recommend for a maximum weight. I have not seen any minimum numbers published. I had run my previous CT down to 12 psi. At that point I noticed that the rim slipped on a very hard acceleration. I had made marks and was checking. At 20 psi there was no slippage. So I moved up to 28 to be on the safe side. I have checked tire temperatures and they were no hotter than the hot road i was on.

For the past week I have been running 26 psi with no slippage on the rim and it handles just fine, but it will take two years and 40k miles to see how it wears.... oh the things we have to do...

Thanks for the reminder. I marked mine when I installed it last week and I just checked it, no slippage noted. I also have had tire slip in the past with low pressure. I tried down around 22 for a while but the center wear was about the same so I stick with 26 or so.

On another note, I just figured I now have 191,020 miles running a car tire on my ST1300. (insert wow emoji thing)

Mounted up another G-Force tire today. 46,850 miles on this go round. I could gone a bit more but here in florida I ride rain a lot more and I like to have some tread for rain.

Wow that is great mileage, I need to mount my next G-Force tire as I hate the Advantage TA tire.

I put on my third BF Goodrich g-force comp-2 a/s 205/50r17 (93W) tire this month. It is a press fit getting it past the drive. You would think it would never fit. The trick is to let all the air out and place a plastic bags between the arm and the tire then it will slide by. I run it at 26 psi to get the best ride. The previous one I put 27k miles on before it picked up a nail with a lot of tread left. oh, I was right it took two years to wear out this tire..... (see post 108)

There were actually three nails in the tire, two were deflected by the steel belts and did not puncture the tire and were there for a long time... the one that punctured the tire was such a slow leak that I rode 40 miles home and it was not until the next morning that the tire was flat...... A MC tire and I would have been on the side of the road waiting for a flat bed truck from the first nail........

Less time in the shop more time on the road and a much more comfortable ride.........

Just getting started here on the darkside tire issue, so my apologies for the ignorance. I've read much of this long thread but it covers many years and various issues. And, tires come and go. Can anyone please post a summary of all the CTs that work and are still available for the ST1300 rear. Thanks.

I was running a regular M/C front tire with the rear CT but recently switched to double dark.
double dark is to put a MC rear tire on the front rim to go with the car tire on the rear. I have a 130/70-18M/C tire on the front rim.
The fatter rear tire better matches the wider CT. You will get twice the miles since it has more rubber. I got 23k miles on my last front DD tire.
I daily commute 80 miles a day, or 18k+ miles a year. Changing tires every 3 months or less got old quick......

Has anyone had an issue with passing their state’s annual safety inspection due to running darkside (having a CT installed on the rear)? Specifically I am thinking Pennsylvania. I am ready to go darkside but knowing if it will pass the inspection is the last piece of the puzzle.

For me it does not matter much. The tire is what the shop had at the time. It is a Bridgestone Battleax BT45r. I mostly commute, but on occasion I take the longer windier paths, PCH, Mulholland, Decker, Latigo, Yerba Buena, Potrero... early in the morning they are all mine...

Having just taken a good ride with the near new stock size Michelins that came with the bike on really smooth roads I couldn't be more impressed with the overall of tires / bike, wouldn't at my skill / experience / knowledge mess with it but I can't help but think that tire 970Mike has would be great in the Canadian spring / fall - where you got all that residual sprayed sand you have to cross over; I wouldn't be surprised if it could keep you up in a bit of gravel. It's just got that look, would sure like to hear more about it's handling.

A question about running that DS tire, has anyone experienced increase wear or troubles with rear wheel bearings, final drive, swingarm bushings etc from running a CT?
