E Camino Cielo, Santa Barbara, Ca.

Yesterday was a nice day in SoCal. I spent 9 hours traveling some 150 miles of back roads in my back yard. Balcom Canyon, 150, 192, Gibraltar road, E Camino Cielo, 154, 192, .... No freeways just lots of twisty roads. 150, Gibraltar road and Camino Cielo have been recently paved. If you go to Santa Barbara you need to ride E Camino Cielo.

The views over Santa Barbara were amazing.

Nice scenery and a beautiful clear day! Maybe one day on a west coast adventure, I'll be able to stick around for a while and enjoy some of the less traveled roads. Good to hear some of them have been freshly paved... been on some that were not pleasurable because of the road surface conditions.

Glad to hear they're starting to take care of E Camino Cielo, it was nasty the last time I was on it.
Have they done W Camino Cielo too?

I don't know if it is still possible but I took (led by my brother-in-law on a Honda 550) an '05 ST1300 over Rufugio Road. It has been closed *forever* due to being washed out. It was a bit of a treat; but, I think I should have been on a dirt bike!

Nice. I went to UCSB in the late 70's and used to go hiking/quail hunting off the end of E. Camino Cielo. It was more pot holes than pavement back then. My son is living in Santa Barbara now - when I ride in for a visit, I'll give those roads a try. Thanks for the report.

When were you last on Refugio RD. The southern half is paved and the northern half is still dirt.
Next time we go that way we will do W Camino Cielo, Refugio RD.
Yes that is a darkside tire on the back of my ST1300 in the third picture.

I went from the Valley side to the coast on an '05 ST1300; so, it was about 10 years ago.
