Any troubleshooting tips would be appreciated. It's under warranty, but I'd like to know what's wrong before I bring it in.

Started her up this morning and rode over to a friend's house for a ride, the windshield worked fine. After a 15 minute stop, it wouldn't work up or down.

At first I thought it was a fuse, but it started working intermitently during the ride. It's been shuddering a bit, going up, for a while now, but it's never stoppped.

I'll have to investigate a bit more now that I'm home, where I have tools.

I guess I'll start with the switch and go from there.

thanks

Are you sure it is an electrical problem, not just a mechanical malfunction?

My screen has frozen before. The rails just needed a good shot of lube.

Since it works sometime, the fuse should be good. It could be binding, but after sitting for a while, to cool the circuit breaker, it still doesn't work.

I'm trying to figure out the troubleshooting steps now, but I keep getting interupted.

I appreciate the warranty fix thing, but leaving my bike at at dealer's for weeks while they think about it doesn't appeal to me much. I'd like to know what the problem is before i bring it in.

DAMHIKT..... But, it's prolly a stripped lift mech. individual Parts not available, they (Honda) will most likely replace the complete windshield mech.. $500.00 + part only!

Ok guys;
Settle down. I figured it out. It's all my fault.

I pulled the top cowl (whatever you call the black plastic covering the dash) and found a wire (escort power) jammed in the up stop switch. It kept the switch from releasing when the shield went down, so it wouldn't come up unless it was jiggled loose a bit.

My bad, I routed that thing blind and didn't take the time to do it right. Now I'm paying the price. No expensive damage done that I can tell, except for the wire. whew, that was close.

Good lesson learned.

Glad you were able to find it. I'm beginning to believe there are no TRUE mechanic's any more only parts changers. Seems they just try changing parts until the problem goes away instead of doing what you did and investigate the problem. Good Catch :).

Can you imagine what they would've charged me to find that sort of thing.

We thought it was a warranty thing and they can't charge troubleshooting to warranty. Chaching!

Now I have to try and stick the fairing extender back on.

thanks for the support

Something like that happened to me on my Jeep many years ago. Ran down to the dealer and picked up a new motor for my windshield Wipers. Got home, pulled off the cover and found a bolt on the wipers had come loose and jammed the wipers, preventing them from moving. Put the bolt back and it worked just fine. However, returning the Wiper Motor was a different story....

The dealer refused to take it back since it was an electrical part and the box was open. I reminded them that the box was open when the sold it to me, how would I know if they didn't sell me a motor off a used car? They still refused to credit my credit card. I called, then wrote a letter to the Credit Card Company, they refused to pay the dealer and never charged my card. I called the dealer and told them I would gladly bring the motor back if they would apologize. Anyone need a Jeep wiper motor?
