Rear 8K.
These tires were fine before leaving for WeSTOC in Nelson, BC. I now have added another 5K miles and noticed the scalloped appearance and feel of both front and rear, although the rear is definitely worse. I wonder if it's a nature of compound rubber to wear out like this.

Joe has slightly more miles on his PR2s and has noticed scalloping as well, although not as much. His tires are balanced with Dyna Beads.

I was having the same thing happen on my ST 1300 on the rear tire and the only thing that I found to slow it down was to run the rear tire at 45 PSI

I run my PR2s at 42 and have run to 10K on each of 2 sets--and could easily go 11K. Just the usual squaring on the rear but no cupping. Maybe I'm not leaning mine over as much or as often ?

I'm on my first set of PR2s on the FJR after running two sets of Metzeler Z6s since I've had it. The front at 5300 miles is showing a small amount of irregular wear, but not enough to really feel while I'm riding, and definitely holding its shape better than the Z6s I used to run. I think I can probably get another 2500 - 3000 out of it. The rear at 3500 miles is still pretty round, but I can see a wear pattern emerging. The tread has a long groove on each side that seems to be deepest at the middle. It seems like the ends of that groove are wearing a bit faster than the center, so it may eventually turn into a cupping pattern.

Think about what happens when you

- twist the throttle
- downshift during braking
- brake

Now, think about those pictures of dragsters coming off the line, their tires twist and raise and do a lot of stuff in order to get the power-to-the-ground.

Every single rear MC tire I've had cups, I'm pretty heavy on the throttle and I love using engine braking... as Mike said, easy on that stuff and it will help, not sure it will go away but it will help.

My PR2 rear started cupping badly at 3500 and was showing threads on left side at 7600. I run 42 but bumped it to 44 later in it's life. They get really loud after cupping. I am pretty hard on throttle and braking

Don, the solution is to quit riding your ST like you ride your Aprilia!

Looks like I do all 3!

I don't think I ever had this severe of a problem when I ran the Z6 on the front and the ME880 on the rear.

Thanks for the link, good article.
