Tired of getting tickets even when I'm trying to take it easy. Looking for a good fuzz buster to keep me out of trouble and for a way to keep it out of the weather.

Any advice is appreciated.

I love my Escorts. I have an 8500 x-50 and a 9500ix. Can't go wrong with Valentine either. The Escorts have the advantage of a built in earphone jack whereas the valentine will need an additional module.

I haven't (knock on wood) had a ticket since installing my Escort 8500x. Ignore the nay sayers who say RDs don't help, because 99 percent of the time, they do, even against Laser. Around here, most cops leave their RADaR on full time, and the Escort picks them up (literally) a mile a way. My observation with LASER is that police have a hard time locking on the ST, and they generally hit me two or three times. However, I hit the brakes as soon as I get a peep- better safe than 200 bucks sorry.

I'm much more susceptible to pacing by the newer SUV traffic vehicles with their #$%^ low profile light bar.

Joe, where did you mount yours?
Fred, I have a right-side Turbocity shelf - check with Kim at CST, Tom said in another thread that he has some - velcro on that and the RD and another velcro strap around both to make sure it doesn't pop loose.

I also have the 9500ix with the hard wire power/mute. Has worked great for over two years. It has saved me on long road trips going through small towns where the speed goes from 65 to 35 before you know it. They are looking for all the $$$ they can get. It has saved me the price that I paid for it. I have the sound hooked into my comm system.

I agree, the dang thing looks like a roof top rack until it's too late. I bet the payback on those lightbars is less than a week, very unfair, I don't even feel a little guilty when my Escort 8500 goes off when they are still way out there. :D

I have a V1 and pick up alerts before people that I'm riding with. Bygdawg and I have CB's and communicate with each other while riding and I would pick up alerts sooner. You also get a lot of false alerts since it's so sensitive. :(

Thanks Joe, I figured you were using one of those. I will probably make something to mount it on. What I would really like is something built into the bike with the receiver remotely mounted.

Valentine One for many, many years. Best RD I have EVER owned and I've tried them all. Now I have two of them.

Ram Mounts RD magnetic mount for mounting it. Can be mounted it various ways using the ram balls.

Ziploc freezer bag and re-useable wire tire for my high tech water-proofing when rain threatens.

Also about the V1, it is upgradeable. If they improve the detection technology, you can send it in and for a small fee they will upgrade it to the new tech. Beats buying a new detector. My first one was upgraded to add POP mode and cost me $45.00 and took less than a week to get it back!

My second one was dropped and started to act a little crazy. Per instructions on their website, I sent it in with a check for $45 to cover repairs since it was six months out of warranty. Less than a week later, UPS delivered it back to me. In the box was my fixed V1 and my check! Now that is great customer service!

(I bought the second one -now in the truck- because the wife won't let me ride the ST without it :D! It is now included gear in ATGATT for me.)

I have a Beltronics Vector V955, which is an Escort 8500X50 in sheeps clothing. Very Loud! I can hear it with earplugs in and wind in my face. It also has a speaker jack to send to your helmet via bluetooth or wired. Same as the 8500.

I was looking around on the website and saw the remote lights....can the RD be hidden somewhere on a ST and still work efficiently? Not sure of legality in some states and would be nice to have it hidden.....been thinking that I've been extremely lucky considering the regular cruising speed of an ST...........

The V1 uses sensors on the front and rear of the unit so it's doubtful you could hide it and not cover one of those sensors. Several are like that.

There are some RDs that use separate sensors and a separate display. I think Whistler has one.

just ordered the Beltronics 995. brand new with "smart cord" for $209 from www.buyradardetectors.com

some packages don't include that smart cord and are pricier w/o it.

hopefully it'll work as advertised.. I'm thinking it is "enough" for a bike and in the car.
