So the new year has started...
Thought I'd get some milage on "Honey" early on in the year...
410kms later I hit a moving chicane....
Came down real hard, many in the know said I should have been killed...

i was on my way down to Pinetown in KZN-Natal.
I had just pulled out of the filling station and was proceeding down the hi-way when I noticed a police car that had seemed to tag me...

SO i was really concentrating on my speed and keeping an eye on the cop car, not wanting to be hassled. eventually after about 7kms the cop car pulled over into the centre island between the two directional lanes.
i was watching and must admit relieved to see him go...
maybe i watched too long and then checked my speed (making a mental note to hold it for a while longer)...

115kms/hr...

then as i looked up i hit a Venture Taxi van that had just come off the shoulder into the slow lane and was doing about 15kms/hr...

I had less than 6 ft to react and jumped on all the brakes.
Snapped the front brake leaver off - adrenaline?
then with an almighty blow hit the rear door of the taxi...then the ST1300 hit me.
the taxi then left...and my ST and I went cartwheeling down the road.

The police must have seen and put on their emergency lights and came to the scene immediately.
the taxi must have seen the lights and came back to the scene...!!!

I had dislocated my left arm and broken my wrist also, grazed my knees, hurt my right side ribs,etc... my head hands and feet are all ok - good gear on!!!
my baby is badly damaged an uninsured. (despicable me = idiot me):(
Typing with right hand - left handed....

my friend says I'm luky to have the pain ast
it lets me know i'm alive...i've got enough pain for two lifetimes...:D

We all know that the bike can be fixed, just take care of your self. It is a beautiful bike and it will be beautiful again. Chalk this into a learning file and enjoy that angels were alert and worked hard to keep you with us.

Glad you're relatively okay, that could have turned out much worse.

Wow, glad that you're posting! I'll echo Big Tom...these bikes catch up to other vehicles very quickly and many of us have had one of those "look up to see we'd unexpectedly gotten too close to a car" moments.

Ohhhh man!! I'm so glad you're not hurt worse than you are!! Sorry about the bike, but better the bike than you.
I too have done the "look down, look up...GAAAA!" thing, but didn't hit.

Heal up well and keep us posted on how you're doing!

Glad that you're not hurt too badly. Broken bikes can be fixed. Broken bodies take forever so take care of yourself and let it heal properly.

Get yourself mended up, that's the important part!

I'm guessing the bike is a "total loss", so you may want to look in to parting it out and using those funds for a new bike.

Heal quickly and fully!!

Sorry to hear that and happy you will be alright. It will be a good idea for bike manufacturers to consider making some display like speed duplicated digitally on the windscreen, to reduce time spent looking down at the instrument cluster. Some cages have this tech already, not that they need it more than bikes.
Any way you look at it it. Da Ace is both lucky and tough.
(I have not wheelied my ST today or ever, only toying with the idea)

Not the way to start the new year. Glad to see that you survived the accident though and hope that you heal quickly.

As for the bike, I'd be surprised if this one is going to fly again judging by the damage that I can see. Looks like a nice size hole in the right hand valve cover just for starters...

Count your blessings for sure. Glad you are still with us!

+1 Looks like the forks are toast too, judging by the drag marks left by the tire.
