I have been contemplating picking up second ST1300 and set it up for long distance riding and leave my 2005 ST1300 for commuting.

After watching different auctions and that, I was a bit discouraged with what I saw out there and the prices the bikes were going for.

Last Week my older son sent me a link to a Craig's Listing of a wrecked 2004. It was sitting at a tow yard and the guy was asking $4,200. I had him send me pictures of it and after evaluating the pics, I told him that there was at least $3,000 worth of damage.

He came back with a $3,400. Hum... I had to take a look at it.

After arranging the $$$, I went and looked at it this morning. Brought it home on the trailer. :D

Here is a list of things I found out so far:

Center Stand - Bent -
Left MUFFLER - Totally wiped out - (Already have a scratched one, but will do for now)
Left lower Cowl- Totally wiped out - (Already have RED, will paint)
Left Bottom Cowl - Totally wiped out - (Already have slightly damaged one)
Left Mirror- Totally wiped out -
Left TURN SIGNAL ASSY.- Gone -
Left Mirror COVER - Gone -
Left ENGINE GUARD Cover - Totally wiped out -
Left Engine Guard- Bent and mostly wiped out -
Left Step - bent and broken
Left Header - Bent - Wiped out
Left Valve Cover - Scratched
Left saddle Bag Lid - Scratched - Paint
Left Pocket Cover - Broken (Already have)
Left Pocket Lid - Broken
Rear Rim bent (Fixable)
Shifter -Bent - (Already have)
Upper Cowl Stay - Bent
Upper Cowl - Cracked and broken (Already have RED one, will paint)
Upper Cowl Cover- Broken

Looks like the were rear-ended. Damage looks similar to the damage I had when I was hit.
Those foot peg hangers are expensive but you can find them on ebay for a reasonable price. I got the replacement headers from there also.

And you got a Smuggler with it! I love the blue 04 color.
Looks like a great project.

Looks like you have got a easy fixer.. Have fun.. Ebay has some of the parts you looking for listed, but I am sure you have looked there already.

Looks like a great project to work on. Now the red bike will be mad with all your attention going to the blue one.

Thanks Guys!
The bike has 30,996 miles on it.
I'm guessing that the bike was sold and the new owner crashed it before he put the bike in his name. When the title was signed on 11/20/2011 it stated 30,464 miles and $3,000 (Someone sold it to a friend? for that price). Then the tow yard had a lein for like $1,800. The Tow yard guy said the owner of the bike just came and signed the bike over to him to pay for the tow and storage and wanted nothing to do with the bike.

BTW, it looks like it went down and slid backwards into a curb or something. I think the the right header is also bent when I look at the underneith picture of the left header. So, I'll just pick up the pair off eBay. :D

I figure that I'll be getting rid of a few extra parts I don't want or need to "finance" the rebuild! :)

If you go splitting your riding time between the two bikes....I suddenly have a better chance of beating you to 150!

(I say this as I sit here watching the second of the predicted 7 inches of snow falling......)
If I get it running before I hit 150K...:

Since when did a "little" :snow1: ever stop you from riding?

;)

Looks like you did pretty good on the purchase. It shouldn't be too hard to get it going again. Does it run? Is that upper cowl you have the one I gave you?

Bob, if you need a right muffler let me know, I have one for a 2005 brand new in the box.
Dana, the upper cowl is from when I had my accident. If you want to "unload" the muffler...how much do you want for it?

Does it have a "rebuilt" title? Just curious.
Actually...No! Because I don't think the insurance company, ever got involved. The bike sat for maybe a month in the tow yard, and the owner just signed the title over to them. But I'm thinking the 2nd owner sold it, the buyer crashed it before putting the title in his name. And I forgot to copy all the paperwork before handing it over to DMV...which kept more then I thought they would...:

I just looked at the DMV charges, they got me for a Transfer Pen (Penalty?) of $15 & Use Tax Pen of $8 and then the normal Tax of $78 and Transfer fee of $30. Total of $131.

So, now with the Smuggler sold, I can order a few more parts to get this thing closer to on the road! :woo

Mirror cover, mirror, upper cowl stay.... that will probabl wipe out what I got for the smuggler! :eek:4:
