Started out yesterday at 6am and the temp here in Gilbert was already 85?. Rode up 87 into Winslow constantly climbing in altitude and the temp along the way dropped into the 60's. Brrrr with my mesh jacket. The geology and topography changes from full desert in/around Phoenix to pine forest and grasslands up near Winslow. I took a side trip over to Petrified Forest just to take a picture with the bike, since I'd been there before in a cage. Over route 40 to route 60 and back home from Show Low through Globe, Miami and Superior. Passed gorgeous canyons and cliffs along the way with a lot of nice winding roads. Skirted a T-storm in Show Low and just missed the one in Miami but got a bit wet. Left Superior and once I dropped down into Gold Canyon the temps soared up to 114?! It felt like riding through an oven. Fortunately, only 30 minutes and I was home. Total miles was 460 and I filled the first tank up just after the light started blinking at 247 miles. Overall average was around 57 MPG. The 2012 Vstrom 650 ran flawlessly and was a total joy to ride. Great route!

nerSTeve and I just got back yesterday from a 10 day 4,000 mile trip down to the Carolina's, the Virginia's, Tennessee, ETC. We hit The dragon, the Snake, the Rattler, Moonshiner 28, Wayah Rd, and so many fantastic roads I can not even remember them all. While we were down on our way down there, we did Hawk's Nest in NY,
(in the rain :(, and I stopped to get a scenic byway sign picture while out there.

Tasmania (an island State of Australia) is a motorcyclist's paradise. Some say the roads were designed by a motorcyclist. There are not many straight roads, but I think I found the longest one, pity it was gravel:

This is the Mighty ST1300 and Elite camper trailer on Waterhouse Road https://goo.gl/maps/89NXkFwLa492, all 12.8km (approx. 8 mile) of it.

We have longer, straight roads in AUS, this is the Eyre Highway in WA, this section is 146.6km (90.5 mile) without a bend https://goo.gl/maps/pxRFBdwN5f42

Next time I'll get a pic with the Mighty ST 1300.

Washington's Trail 1753..George, at 21, was sent to diplomatically tell the French to get out of the Ohio Lands. Nearly killed near Pittsburgh, George was unsuccessful in getting the French to vacate, thus started the struggle known as the French-Indian Wars in 1754

Skyline Drive on a unusually warm 72 degree February day. The water is frozen because it was in the 20's the previous night and hadn't been above freezing for the week prior. I only saw 2 other cars on Skyline Drive for the 2 hours I was on it. .
