drrod;1619429 A question of another sort if I may.....why does my detector (V1) sometimes give off an alarm (usually K band) when there is no source that can be determined. The instance that stands out the most for me was on Hiway 191 in north central Montana. If anyone has ridden it you know that you can see your dog run away for 3 days. My detector kept going off over the course of about 10 miles. No visible reason. Was I being tracked by a F16?:) BTW - my friend's 9500xi was doing the same thing. Rod[/QUOTE said:
K might be target ID and discrimination.
Ka is sometimes used for close in targeting, you're still here.. it wasn't that LOL.

Did you see one of these out in a corn field?

Welcome to radar detectors. I've tried many over the years, of various qualities including an expensive Escort. They all do the same thing- go off like crazy randomly, even when I'm in the middle of nowhere without an officer for miles. Because of the "crying wolf" syndrome, I stopped using them. They all went off so many times for no reason, I stopped trusting them the times there WAS a reason. Now I just keep my eyes open and pay attention, and it works better than the false sense of security.

So the signs that say either "Slower Traffic Keep Right" or "Keep Right Except to Pass" (I have seen both here in Canada) are merely advisory and carry no legislative backing?
Rod
In Canada each province has different laws to control driving so they vary province to province. In Ontario both those signs, if they are correct shape, colour, and size and errected by a gov't body would have legislation behind them.

To quote the training a radar or light wave, if constantly powered, will travel to infinity unless it is refracted, reflected, or absorbed so maybe the pic from another post is just somewhere out there you just can't see it :)

Yep, it seems that all radar detectors can be rendered useless by frequent, radomly timed wide-angle transmissions from a single satellite... all detectors go off so frequently that users begin to ignore them.

Well it's been a week since my encounter with a radar device and a LEO. I find it rather ironic, all this talk about technology but one thing hasn't changed. I call the supplied phone number to inquire about cost, defensive driving classes, etc. Well it seems like the good 'ol LEO hasn't found time to turn in his tickets. "You might try back in about a week or so..." I was advised by the helpful clerk. Unsure of the exact court date since the tickets are still written the same way they have been for decades, by carbon copy and my copy, the bottom one, is not that legible even if I could decipher the LEO's penmanship. What a world!

I must be living right or something; my V1 works flawlessly for me, used it about 12 years/250k miles now. The vast majority of the time I spot the LEO, radar trailer, whatever. On rare occasion- some of the newer cars (that use Ka for backing or distance following) will alert it- but that it activates then isn't a "false" at all, its working exaaaaaaaactly as intended- notifying me of a Ka Tx.
