2012-05-06 CO, Briggsdale - Crow Valley Picnic Ride

The group I ride with has been hosting the Crow Valley Picnic ride for many years now. It is held the first Sunday in May at the Crow Valley Recreation Area near Briggsdale (east of Fort Collins on Highway 14). Several years we tried to make it a "All Clubs Picnic Ride" with some success.

This year I would like to invite the STOC members in the area to join us.
For those that have dual sport bikes, maybe we can do a little dirt riding after lunch to the Pawnee Buttes.

See the attached flyer for more details.

Karla and I might be in, depending on what we have accomplished on our list. Thank you for the heads up! I'll speak with her about it when I get home.

Thanks for passing along the invitation from your group to this group Randy. I'm going to have to pass due to another prior commitment that weekend. You guys enjoy!

Isn't Pawnee closed to OHV at the end of March?

Re: 2012-05-06 CO, Briggsdale - Crow Valley Picnic Ride

I know that in the spring you can't get real close to the Buttes because of nesting birds, but I think the roads are all open.
    I'll look into it further.

EDIT: Looks like only the walking trail up to the Buttes is closed between March 1 and June 30. You can still ride fairly close.

    This from: http://www.coloradodirectory.com/nat...ks/pawnee.html

The Pawnee Buttes Trail is an excellent way to explore parts of the park. This is a 1.5 mile trail that gives you an opportunity to view the Buttes of Pawnee up close. Climbing on the Buttes is strictly prohibited. The trail is closed from March 1 to June 30 to protect nesting hawks and falcons.

Re: 2012-05-06 CO, Briggsdale - Crow Valley Picnic Ride

I rode out to Crow Valley today to check it out. I had heard that it was vandalized last fall (closed early because of it).
It looked just the same as last year, so I don't know what was vandalized, must have been repaired.

I also took a ride out to the Pawnee Buttes. I haven't been there in 20 years.
