1996 ST1100, 44,000 miles. As far as I know valves have never been adjusted, I've owned the bike since 16,000 miles. I decided to check them this weekend. My feeler gauges are in inches with the metric equivalent on them as well. However, since they are inches the metric is not exactly even (e.g. .006" = .152 mm). All of my valves are within spec but some are on the loose side, I would have expected tight but loose is good. Is it worth it bringing them back to the middle at this point? I do have 2 exhaust valves that are on the tight side of being within spec.

They are within spec and likely to stay there for a long time. You have nothing of value to gain by moving them to the nominal values and might even cause some new problems. I'd leave them alone and go ride. Of course if you like to tinker with things, I'm not going to stop ya...

Kinda what I figured. Just looking for other input. Valve covers are back on so I wasn't really planning to adjust anything at this point anyway:D

Ashley,

Some of us have experienced valve clearances somewhat on the loose side upon first checking. After running two tanks of Techron (or Seafoam) they moved closer to the center.

Thanks. I've been meaning to run some seafoam but I'm not checking them again any time soon!
