Eureka!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is something I've been waiting for for over a year and today I found out that the H.A.R.D. system is now redesigned and available for sale: http://www.legalspeeding.com/HARD-System.htm

The HARD system is a device that wirelessly transmits a radar alert to a tiny LED that mounts inside your helmet. The light is positioned so that its visible to the rider while riding. So it solves the problem of "I can't hear the detector, I don't want to add loud speakers for the whole world to hear the detector and I never see the visual alert that the detector produces".

Per their website:

The H.A.R.D. System V represents a ground-up redesign. Below are features of the new system.

- Auto off ? the H.A.R.D. System V receiver will shut itself off automatically after a set amount of time (four hours of use). Before shutting itself down, the receiver will flash to notify rider of shut down. If the rider wants to keep the receiver on, simply touch the on / off switch and the four hour timer starts over.

- Low Battery Warning - The H.A.R.D. System V notifies the rider of a low power source situation via a flash pattern. No longer is there a worry about having a dead battery durning a radar threat.

- Weather Proof ? the H.A.R.D. System V has a waterproof design. Both the receiver and transmitter are designed to operate in adverse conditions.

- Standard Battery ? the H.A.R.D. System V utilizes a standard, off the shelf battery that provides a cost effective power source.

- Compatible with the Leading Radar Detectors ? The H.A.R.D. System V is compatible with radar detectors from Adaptive, Beltronics, Escort, and Valentine.

- Plug-n-Play Design ? the H.A.R.D. System V keeps the simple plug-n-play design that has made it so popular over the years.

Now shipping for $150. Pretty pricey, but if it saves me ONE SPEEDING TICKET, I'm even.

Talk amongst yourselves.

I spoke too soon.

I'm having issues with mine and the seller admits that there were problems with them. (Edit:) A year + ago, the
seller (also the designer/manufacturer I think) offer to allow me to beta test the product, but never followed through....needless to say, I found this pretty disappointing.

He seems to have good ideas but poor execution and it comes across as pretty amateurish.

DO NOT BUY THIS...it's not ready for prime time.

What issues are you having?

Joe,

Problem #1 (From my first ride): The HARD system began flashing four times every five minutes. Distracting to say the least. Add to this that the radar detector (Escort Passport 8500) was NOT alerting at the time.

I called the seller and asked for help. The unit was shipped with two batteries and I was told that their batteries were old and in weakened condition. (And the reason you shipped them like this was.....????)

Remedy: I was advised to go buy a new battery. Which I did. They could have offered to send me two fresh batteries, couldn't they? This speaks volumes about their attitude towards customer service and their overall customer experience.

However, this did not fix Problem #1. My fix was to turn the HARD unit OFF and remove it from my helmet so it can't flash in my face anymore.

Problem #2: They admitted to me that the "low battery threshold" for the unit was set WAY too high (they now realize)...I believe he said it's set to alarm (four flashes every five minutes) when the battery gets to 2.6V...which is way more than enough (I was told) to operate the unit. So, the unit continues to operate, but thinks it's battery is low, so it continually flashes a "low battery warning"...highly annoying and a horrible product design.

Remedy: They said they plan to recall the units and reset the low battery threshold in the firmware. However, they did not offer to do this yet.

I'm asking for a refund...really amateurish product execution.

Actually my problems with this guy started a year ago when he asked for volunteers to beta test the new HARD. I offered and was accepted. Never heard from them and wish they would have let me test one. Following this they quoted delievery dates that were consistently missed.

The HARD device seems like a good idea, but is riddled with poor execution.

This is the same outfit that sells the Park-n-Move dolly which had some early problems with defective casters. I understand they replaced the casters free of charge, but I'd have to agree that this seems to be "amateurish". Too bad since the HARD is a good idea.

Well, sounds like you're beta testing it now.. LOL

Sorry, sux when you don't get what you're expecting. I hope they figure things out and haven't sent out too many units in this condition. That's kinda how I feel about the orange TPMS product, really like it but they had too many failures with regards to the product and the business but I do hope they try to do a better job.

I have the park n move and they just sent me some replacement casters, mine were starting to crack and I was thinking of selling it but wanted new casters to go along with the item.

I'm surprised Aaron went back to the exposed battery/circuit board design. Many of the prior Gen problems were from folks janking the board prying the batteries out with letter openers and chain saws. He'll get it sorted- he has a fine offering, its just a new design and I thank everyone who bought one for working out the bugs before I buy a new one :)

Update: Got an apologetic email from AAron...he's on vacation and I guess there was no one to reply to emails sent in to the company. To his credit, he told me a refund was doable. I asked if all the units were doing what mine is doing. In which case I want a refund. If mine's bad all by itself, I'll try another one...but I have a feeling I'm seeing either design or manufacturing problems that will likely be systemic. Just a guess....

So far, no reply.

Joe, this IS what I'd expect from a beta test...everything except the part where I paid $150.

Heard anything from Aaron? I have the same problem. Sent him an email last week and have not heard back! It worked like a charm for two days and late on the third day I started getting the low battery indicator flashes. I assume if I could put up with the false flashes (which I do not intend on doing), the unit would continue to work as intended until the battery reaches the minimum level?

Let me know if you hear back and I will do the same.

Thanks for the test.
I was just about to buy the unit on another form...
Mike
I suggest you hold off.

Heard anything from Aaron?
Nope...I'll contact him for a refund...tired of messing around with him.

I have the same problem.
I was concerned that my issue was a systemic problem with this design. Given that he did not offer a unit for beta testing, I'm not surprised that there are issues.

I guess so...but I really have no confidence in this product. Very disappointed...I'm going for a refund.

As of 11/6/12 I've had no reply from Aaron.

Today I sent him a new email requesting support (either they fix it, tell me how to fix it or issue a refund...his call).

EDIT: became impatient and tried calling them again. Got a rather helpful and sympathetic fellow (not Aaron). Bottom line, I was offered a refund, a replacement or a firmware upgrade. They know they have issues with the HARD product...there's a new design being finalized now and they expect to introduce it in December at an LA MC show.

So they seem to be trying. I'll get mine replaced or upgraded...talk about not ready for primetime.

Next stop...USPS to return receiver.

Just heard from Aaron at Legal Speeding regarding my HARD system.

His email:

Bob,

Updated your receiver firmware to version 3.0. This should address the low battery warning issue you have been experiencing. We are sending it back today. We removed the battery from the unit (it is in a plastic bag) so when you get it back, the first thing to do is install a battery. We also included some extra batteries. Once you get it back please let us know how it is performing. Since it is software driven, changes and updates are pretty easy to do and free.

Also, please note we have changed the warranty period for the HARD System V. It is now one (1) year, not six (6) months.

My reply:

Aaron,

I appreciate the update. I don't expect perfection and will always work with a supplier to get what we both want.

Look forward to trying it out.

Bob

Hmmm....maybe this will work out.

Nothing about not returning your numerous contact requests? Hmm...
Uh, no. But its not a product category with a lot of players, so he gets my business with C- service (so far). But maybe he's been going thru something...who knows? I'm trying to be more patient in life....this has been a great opportunity to practice being less type-A.

Good on you Bob, good on the kinder/gentler you! Simple, (not so) common courtesy would suggest Aaron at least pay some lip service to his faux pas, but I suppose that's no longer in vogue...

I was told by Aaron that the software update would improve the situation significantly but not solve the problem. The low voltage warning is hard wired. Supposedly sometime in December they would have the new H.A.R.D. System with the changes made. I opted to hang onto mine until that time. I really won't be using my radar detector enough in the next few cold weather months to even reach the defective low voltage warning.

I plan on working with Aaron on this problem because he has come through for me in the past. Also, in my opinion you really can't find a better radar signal warning solution for using radar on a motorcycle!

Having dealt with Aaron in the past, he is definitely not quick on email response. I think his preferred method of communication is the old fashion way where people actually talk to people!

This is what I was told also. Now lets see if they can hit their date.

I have my old unit back with updated firmware. Haven't had a chance to try it our yet...should soon.
