This is the right-hand grip from my 04 ST1300. I didn't get an owner's manual with the bike, and the manual I downloaded doesn't say anything about these controls. What the heck are they?

I edited the title.. those are the controls typically installed on police bikes to control all the lights/sirens/etc.

Thanks, Mellow. I wondered if that might be the case. So that means I've got some cool switches I can connect nerdy stuff to on my ST! Now I just have to decide what to put on it.

I would probably use the switches to fire relays so you don't run heavy voltage through the switch. Will work without the relays, but with them you can run whatevere high amp stuff you want. You can also 'separate' 1 from 2 with a couple of relays since when 2 is on, 1 & 2 is on, 3 is on, 1,2 & 3 are on.

Uncle Phil:

Good idea about the relays. Any idea if they will have left the wires when they removed the police gear? That would be handy.

The switch has two wire 'bundles' - one is the 'starting/headlights/kill switch' bundle, the other are the wires to switches 1,2,3,4 and 5. Hound has the wiring diagram posted here, which may have been in Joe's post. On the ST1100, the connection is just behind the steering stem. I got mine as switches and added them to the bike. Don't know what the 'decommissioners' could have done to the wires. Can you shut your headlights off using the light slider on the left?

Here is a simplified circuit for the switch assembly, ( at least to me it is) for the 1100P. From there it should be fairly easy to make something for non P bikes. Note, the kill and start switches arent included, its just the police extras.

Usage in West Oz are

1 - strobes
2 - Pole strobe
3 - Siren momentary
4 - Siren on
5 - Power switch for strobe and siren package
7 & 8 - not used.

Fantastic, thanks very much for the wiring diagram. I haven't looked yet, but if they've left the wiring in that will make it a lot easier to connect auxiliaries.

Yep, headlight goes off with the switch labeled "4." So I guess I still have wires, and maybe even relays! Now I just need to apply a little imagination.

Seriously, coming from the bikes I've been riding for the past nearly 30 years, the ST already has everything I can think of. I can't imagine what I would add. Fog lights, maybe, since I live on the Wet Coast.

All great info, but where do I get one of these police switches? Honda dealer's ( yes pleural) says the cops get and install them themselves, I can't get the switches or crash bars from dealerships.

Online vendors will probably sell them to you— Ron Ayers.com and Partzilla.com to name couple. I'm surprised that a dealer wouldn't order them. I thought parts is parts.

Just a note - without some sort of bar risers, the bottom of the switch will hit the tank (at least on the ST1100). Also, when switch 2 it on, switch 1 is on, and the same is for switch 3. With relays, you can 'separate' 1 and 2 easy enough.

Thanks folks. It's weird, I found the police switch for 05 and up. No listing for a 04 police switch. The stock switch and handlebars for a 04 is the same as 05 and 06 ect. So shouldn't the police which be the same in 04 as it is in 05?
