I don't get Honda at all. Do you see people clamoring for that?

I disconnect the airbags in any cage I own. I would do the same on a bike.
I remove the seatbelts from all my cages. Read too many stories about people being trapped in their burning (or sinking) cars... ;)

I guess it does answer the question about the ST engine passing new emission standards.

My initial response is, "Huh?"

Will take some time to process what I'm seeing.

I had a pretty significant head on wreck in a car with airbags and was very surprised that the biggest injury was to my shins which hit the bottom of the dash. Airbags definitely save lives.

Re: Replacement for the Honda ST1300 in 2014?

There was a supposedly leaked document that I saw over on the NT700 forum which I didn't pay much attention to. Maybe that was discussed here as well but I missed the thread. But now I see Honda announcing some of these bikes such as the CTX1300 that were mentioned in the document. Also mentioned on that document was a VFR800F. Not mentioned on that document was a VFR800T or VFR1200T or anything else that looked like an ST replacement. http://blog.motorcycle.com/2013/09/05/manufacturers/honda/leaked-document-lists-honda-ctx1300-cbr650f-cb650f-vfr800f-cb250f-and-updated-cbr250r/

Saw that on the GL1800 riders forum--its supposedly for the Japanese market. Is it safe to assume anything that Honda makes would get released there first? If so, no new ST.

Once again, Honda proves that they have the 'power to surprise'.

Re: Replacement for the Honda ST1300 in 2014?

Coincidently, I just got a recall notice on my daughter's 2012 Camry because of a couple of accidental air bag deployments. Water dripping from the air conditioner condenser is leaking onto the airbag control module. Two incidents, no accidents, no one hurt. I am sold on air bags for cars but accidental deployment on a bike would be a much worse thing so I don't think I would choose it as an option. At the same time it probably wouldn't stop me from buying the bike if I had no choice and I liked everything else about the bike. That would be figuring the odds of accidental deployment are outweighed by the potential benefit of a needed deployment.

A VFR800F? Hmmmm... That could be tasty.

They don't need to reinvent the wheel in the ST market, as they seem to be trying to do in the cruiser market, they have several good mills that could serve as solid platforms for great ST bikes. Similar variations using the two older V4's would make them relatively cost effective as the R&D is paid for, while addressing THE most common desires in the market to make them competitive. Few if any will scream foul if the more modern 1200 isn't used, as it's less proven and quite likely more expensive initially and down the road, and this is a fairly long term/mile owner driven market. There are many 'older' standing features that combined thoughtfully would yield a great ST bike:
- ABS & Traction control
- elec screen
- shaft drive on the 1300 variant, chain or BELT on the 800 to keep it light and efficient
- ADJUSTABLE ergos (bars, pegs, seat)
- two simple drive mode/map options: economy or performance
- a decent suspension that comes with front/rear preload and dampening, with a spring rate out of the crate that doesn't assume a ridiculously low range of load.

Who here wouldn't be in line to test ride one or both of those bikes?

They are recalling 805,000 cars. That's a bunch!

They sell a bunch!
Reported as spiders nests causing the water diversion onto the controller.

Looking at a couple of the associated articles, look like the CTX line will use DCT as a cornerstone technology. In other words, no manual transmission option for CTX bikes.
The CTX1300 photos show a clutch lever. The Honda website shows the 2014 CTX700 coming either with a standard clutch or with ABS and DCT.

All pictures feature models in open-faced helmets and jeans, so I guess we can conclude that the CTX1300 is aimed at the cruiser market. I liked the MCN comment about it being the offspring of the DN-01 and the FB6. :)
