PR2 front tire wear

I just measured the tread remaining on my PR2 front and it has about 1/16th of an inch of depth left. (the rear was toast, cord showing). The new PR3 that arrived today measures a little over 5/32nd of an inch. Would y'all trust the old PR2 for a few more local miles (avoiding rain) or just go ahead and chuck both of the PR2s and spoon the PR3s on? Yeah, I'm cheap. Retired, fixed income, all that. :).

I have tried to squeeze a few more miles out of tires in the past and it has come back to bite me. I would just change out the tire and have one less thing to worry about.

I've found myself in the same dilemma, twice. I just changed mine. If you went down because of lack of tread on a bit of sand, gravel, oily spot, wet, or just a well worn surface, the perceived dollar savings, plus probably quite a few more, just went out the window.

Based on the a toasted rear pr2 performance in the rain I wouldn't push my luck. Picture might help tho.
But...
With 2 new tires at the same time it's like a whole nother bike. :)

Sorry,,,I know this is not your question,,,but. You may be well served by reading about the BT045 rear tire mounted on the front. Guys are getting good performance out of them as in,,pushing them pretty hard and having them stick. The tread depth is substantially greater to start hence you get more miles per tire. YEMV good luck.

Tread has nothing to do with grip on dry pavement unless you have too much thread depth, all thread does on pavement is give water a place to go. If you are sure there will be no rain then carry on a few more miles. If you are not sure or are uncomfortable with the uncertainty then replace it.

Rear tires have more tread depth for a reason just as front tires have less. If you know that you will not need all of the traction a front tire can supply then run a rear tire on the front.

True but I don't trust the guessers and I'm not waiting on the side of the road for the sun to dry it :)

The pr2s with limited tread left also tend to be pretty funny shaped which isn't helping traction.

The last PR2 I tried to make last to the wear bars got 2 punctures, one from a piece of glass and at the same time. It was at about 1/32nd tread left. I'd change it.

How many miles do you have on it... I've yet to use up a PR2.. I keep taking them off around 9-10k thinking there's not much left but have 3 I need to put pack on and wear out... I think Shuey said he got 14k out of some.

I've got over 15,000 on the PR2s. FWIW, I'm changing out both tires on Friday. The promise of a "whole new bike", which I know to be true from changing to PR2s last time (from POS Roadsmarts) is just too much to pass up. Thanks to everyone for all of the input.

I would change it. For the price of a few beer is it worth it? Save the tire for an emergency if you get a flat and waiting for a tire to get to you.
