I am absolutely dumbfounded to receive this award. I first came to STOwners in 2005 and was immediately struck by the quality (and the quantity)
of the denizens here. I didn't even log in, just lurked until I got my '93 in 2006. Since then, there has been no way to get rid of me.
I've met a lot of people in my life, but I've never associated with a finer group than this one. I have not yet met a single soul that I truly dislike, and some
have become real, true, long time friends. It's just so humbling to be honored here. The names and faces and places just amaze me...
I got my first motorcycle at 13 in 1964. A YG1KT Yamaha 80cc marvel. I put over 30,000 miles on that bike. By 1965 I had overhauled the motor and
transmission, a pattern of doing my own work that follows me today. Next came a Honda 250 Dream (a truly ugly MC), a 305 Hawk and a Suzuki X6.
My first 4 stroke road bike was a completely used TR6 Triumph. I learned to keep that beast running...There have been over 50 others, some notable
and some forgettable. A H1 Kawasaki triple that nearly killed me, a Suzuki Water Buffalo w/fairing (what a concept), a 1976 HD (the only one. It
was junk), Yamaha Venture Royale (my first 100,000 MC) a naked Goldwing. Jeeze. The only new MC I ever bought was a KZ1 in '72, but I almost
bought a XS1100 Yammy and bought the same bike with less than 1000mi on it. And the list goes on...
It'll be 48 years of riding in April. I had as much as a year without riding a couple of times, but for the most part, I've ridden something...It's funny
how that works, but the peak of it all came nearer the end than the beginning, right here at ST Owners. A truly remarkable group, I am
humbled to be a part of this. Thanks for letting me stay...
