O.K., I had my visit with the hand specialist today, and cam away very happy with lost of faith in this guy. This has nothing to do with the prognosis, just that he was very friendly, very good at explaining things to me, and took time to go over all options and answer any questions I had.

Apparently my PT was closer to the real problem than my original doctor was. He saw the ganglion cyst and stopped there. The PT actually went over all my range of movements, locations and causes of pain, etc. and said the evidence pointed to a problem with the triangular cartilage in the wrist. As it turns out, my triangular cartilage is damaged and leaking, and that is what caused the cyst. The good news is that the attachment points are in good shape. He suggested going in and doing some cleanup, and using a scope to inspect the damage. If the damage is isolated to where he thinks it is, I should heal up fairly quickly and be pain free. There is a bit of a chance that the edges of the cartilage could be damaged, which would require stitching them up and a longer recovery period without use of my hand. And worse case, if a particular part of the cartilage is damaged (he feels highly unlikely from what he saw in the scans), then I may need more involved repair and a cast on my arm to hold it immobile.

I have surgery scheduled for next Monday morning. Hopefully I'll be riding again in a couple/few weeks after that.

That sounds way more hopeful than a week ago. It sounds like you found a good doc that really wants to help. I wish you the best through all of this.

Good luck to you, I know I'm at that awkward age where I have more things that hurt than don't hurt
I've abused my body all my life- riding dirt bikes & ATVs as a kid, lifting and carrying stupid things as an adult, and generally putting my body through hell. I'm just trying to get the worse offenders taken care of. If I wanted my whole body fixed, I would need my own personal team of doctors!

That sounds good, Jim. My thoughts are with you, my friend. I'll be anxiously awaiting the news on the results of the surgery!
Onward and upward.

I had asked the doctor how long until I'd be able to ride, because I'm a long distance rider. He said I should be able to put 100 miles or more on within a few weeks. I told him I often do several times that before dawn...and I had a 1200 mile coming up, a 24 hour rally in a few months, and need to knock off a 1500 mile ride before the end of June. He looked a little shocked for some reason. :D But it sounds like my limits will be up to me...within a couple weeks I shouldn't be able to do any damage. WOO HOO!!!

Good to hear that there is a positive prognosis. I'm continually amazed at what some doctors are capable of.

It will depend on funding, but my hopes are to be able to make a last minute decision to go to Moonshine. If that happens, I'll probably end up camping again, since there won't be any rooms within a reasonable distance. But that will save money too. I just hope if I do make it...the weather is warmer than last year!!! I'm surprised I didn't freeze to the ground that Thursday night I arrived!!!

Thanks all!!!

I'm laying here waiting to go in. Its really very minor, expected to be about an hour. My main concerns are due to not having surgery since I was five years old, and hoping this is successful in fixing the problem and that he finds no surprises.

Bet Jim is good and loopy right now.... I should go move his motorcycle on him.
Well done! That is pretty much the best alibi you can have...proclaiming your intention to do something - now there's no way he'll think it is you who moved his bike...cause no one would admit their own guilt:bow1:

BTW, good thing you took the heavy-duty tow rope because moving his bike in all that NH snow is harder than during the warmer months:)

Had a 4 hr wait due to an emergency the doc was working on. Went very well though, just got home (hospital is 2.5 hrs away). Bike is where I left it...guess Karen couldn't find the tire (front wheel is in house LOL). Hopefully I'll be riding in a couple/few weeks.

Its the right wrist. He did find damage, cleaned it out so it can heal faster. No surprises, so it was fairly quick & easy. I wonder if I can get a prescription for cruise control so I can ride sooner LOL

Appreciate the kind words. There are others who could use it a lot more than I...this was nothing compared to what some of our ST brothers & sisters have gone through.
