Help Needed: Replacement of LCD instrument panel

This is a cause of age of the bike... its coming to 12th year, and the instrument LCD has leaked.

Need advice over options to replace it ? Most places only offer a total instrument cluster replacement, which is indeed costly, and time consuming. It also resets your mileage to 0km

Appreciate any advice

Many thanks

Sorry, but I'm afraid you're stuck buying a new (used?) one.

I have bought three now. One was in pretty bad shape and I bought it just to pull apart to see what made it tick!

That LED display is all soldered on to the board.

Not to hijack the thread, but to SupraSabre--are those regular incandescent 194 bulbs that light-up our dials?

If so, I've got 194 LED's that I'll put in there next time my top cover comes off.

Actually the LCD is Not solder to the board. There are metal tabs on the back side of the board that can be straightened out and the whole LCD will come off of the board. The electrical current for the LCD is passed through some silicone pieces that make contact with the board.

I'll have to see what I paid for it. I think it was around $60, but I'll let you know. I think you can change the miles/F & C...some how (I hope)...anybody know the trick?

Here's what you do, set current MPG /average fuel consumption meter display in "No Indication" meaning it is blank.
Then hold the FCD/H button for 3 seconds. It will display metric rather than imperial measurements or visa/versa.

I use it all the time.
A few things don't change, can't change the American bike to read celsius for the temperature.
Also, can't change the American bike from US/GALLONS to KILOMETRES/LITRE

Great! My new Calibrated Cop Speedo is in Celsius! There's got to be some little switch on the board to set it! :think1:

I'm looking at it now. I need to do a little experimentation with it before I can let it go. I need to find out if there is some way to change the C to F. I'm wondering if it is in the board or the lcd... I can't find anything on it.

If you don't find that switch and your sale to Maclife doesn't work out, I'll trade you an American one for a Metric one.
The frustrating thing is, I bought that cop speedo because it had about 20K on the clock....which my 2010 has...about...

The only thing wrong is the C VS F! :eek:4:

So, if you have a American one that is a cop speedo and has about 20K on it we would be in business...;)

i was wondering i read somewhere that changing the instrument cluster to a used one will have your milleage according to the cluster. another post somewhere i read that it follows the ecu as the data is stored in the ecu? anyone knows or point to the right answer?

Project Completed - the surgery has been successful and many thanks to Suprasabre for supply the LCD.

All data were not affected and remained with mileage in Km, and temp in celsius

It's in the cluster. Trust me, I've been playing with a number of them over the last couple of years.

OK. this may sound weird but is it specific to certain region? eg US model follows the cluster or Euro model follows ecu.
