In another post, 970mike mentioned that there is a headlight cutout to turn them off when the starter button is pressed. My 2010 ST does not turn off the headlights when starting the bike, and the bike turns over and starts up almost instantly. Do all of the ST's have this cutout? Is the cut-out an in-line normally closed switch that is part of the starter button? (When you hit the button, the normally closed contacts open, killing the relay that powers the headlights).

Here is a quote from page 32 in my Owners Manual.

The start button is used for starting the engine. Pushing the button in starts the engine. See Starting Procedure, page 54 .
When the start button is pushed, the starter motor will crank the engine; the headlight will automatically go out, but the taillight will stay on.
The starter motor will not operate if the engine stop switch is in the OFF position when the start button is pushed.

You have it correct on how it works. The police models work differently at least the older models and they have a switch to turn off the headlights.
