It would have much easier if Honda had used the common H-4 base lamps.
Some years ago I purchased a European headlight shell on ebay for my st1100 - it uses standard H4 bulbs. Adaptors are also available somewhere on ebay to use H4 bulbs in the St1100 headlight.

The US DOT only allows a total of 90 watts for dual head lights (during 1100 production). Don't know about now-a-days. That is why the Honda lamp has a special base and is 45/45.

The European shell is a simple remove US and install European.

I wasn't aware of the H-4 headlight lamp adapter for the ST1100. I would have used it instead of having to heat up the stock bulb with a torch. Should have researched on here a bit 1st!

Do you have any pics of them on at night? I have been running HID for the last 5 years and have sworn by them but I had a bulb go out so I thought why not give the LED a try. My kit is in the mail already but my fingers are cramping from being crossed that I did not blow $80.

This is the H4 adjustment shim set that I used to do a H4 headlight upgrade on my ST1100 :). I know you've already done it your awesome DIY -propane torch route :bow1: , but if someone else is looking for the H4 Shims, here it is :D :-

Re: Just installed Cree LED Headlight Bulbs on MY 2004 ST1100. What a difference!

The shims are needed when doing the H4 mod for the 1100. They're not needed when doing it for the 1300.

When adapting an H4 halogen to either ST the two bottom tabs are cut off. The shims are added only for the 1100.

The OP went to the considerable effort to remove the OEM bracket from a stock bulb and replaced the H4's bracket with it so no shims were necessary.

The bulb you linked to isn't the same as the OP's but bend back or break off the bottom two tabs add shims and post pics in the morning.

Great thanks ST Gui,I guess I didn't make it clear that I had an 1100.Just assumed we would all be talking about 1100's as we're in the 1100 Tech section and Lenn was installing these on an 1100.
So this is my question,...
Since Lenn went to the trouble of modding his to fit these(yes I read all responses),just trying to avoid that if possible.Shims+ H4 adapters+breaking off tabs achieves this? and the bulb I linked is the correct one with shims to do this?

Yes, shims and H4 bulbs with the tabs broken off.

I'm not sure a picture would do much justice. I'd say they are not any brighter than an HID lamp, but coverage is better. They absolutely smoke my stock lamps. Which kit did you purchase?

I just installed CREE H4 LED Bulbs in my 2004 ST1300 over the weekend. Take a look at my Installation Album for further details.

That is my thought also! You need to give us a report on your findings. I have the LED headlights in my new Honda Accord Touring that work great.

I bought this kit off of Amazon, LED H4 Bulbs.

I have a similar one installed on my NC700X. It does very well at night. I am expecting similar results with these. The results should be twice as good, since there’s two of them verses the one on the NC.

The light temperature is near daylight, which is a pale white. On the ride into work this morning, I could see road signs reflecting the light from a great distance away. I did have to adjust the headlight aim after installing them though. Also you will need the adaptor shims to use the H4 bulb base in the ST1300's headlight assembly.

So for the actual installation of these bulbs, all that needs to be done is to mount them on the adaptor shims? (my 1100 as well as the 1300). Then do whatever is necessary for the connections.

What shims? Shims aren't necessary for regular/halogen H4 bulbs in the 1300. Why are they needed for this install?

Maybe this is what he is talking about
I confess I found the pics a little confusing. So it looks like the infamous 1100 shim is being used as the new base instead of just cutting off the two lower tabs on the H4 base as is commonly done with Silverstars etc?
