Can the screw on the bottom of the fork- (accessed after you take the wheel off) - be removed and used to drain a small amount of fork oil without detriment to the internals of the fork?
thanks in advance

short answer, yes.

assuming you have an ABS model without the drain bolts on the sides?

also assuming you don't want to pull the fork and drain from the top.

the bottom bolt can sometimes be broken loose with a simple ratchet and hex driver (you'll need a long driver though to cross the diameter of the axle hole) or worst-case you'll need an impact driver of some kind to snap it loose without it rotating. Never tried it with oil still in the fork, so not sure how fast the oil will flow out of the hole once the bolt is removed, so you probably just want to loosen it a bit and let it dribble through the threads.
