Staus of Michelin Pilot Road 2 tires?

Does anyone know the status of the Michelin Pilot Road 2 tires? Is Michelin discontinuing/phased them out because of the PR3 and PR4 tires? I tried to buy a set of PR2's this spring and couldn't find a full set anywhere. When I look for them now the front's seem to be out-of-stock everywhere and only a few places have the PR 2 rear. I'm running a PR3 front and PR2 rear now. Because of the price differential I?d much rather be running PR2?s on both ends. For me they?re the best tire I?ve ever put on a bike.

My son just ordered a rear PR2 today for his CBR from Motorcycle superstore. Not sure if they have our size in stock.

I was lucky in finding both front and rear at Amazon. Funny thing is, they didn't come right up on the first search. Took a little while for some reason. But as soon as I found them I ordered them.

Ive also noticed the 2's and original PR1's seem to be in short supply. I fitted a pair of 3's when I first got my 13, but in an attempt to get better mileage swapped to a 2 rear in July, but after 5250miles on summer trips round Wales, France and 2 to Scotland it's had it! There's still tread in the middle, but the flanks are out. I'm out tomorrow on a club ride in the morning, returning to collect the wife to take her up to Lincoln to see the last two remaining Lancaster's do a fly past for what could be the last ever time. That should finish it off.
I've found a bargain PR1 to fit next, be interesting to see how that does. Although I have since seen the 2's are back in stock from my normal online supplier.

Go with the Bridgestone T30 GT's. $229 from Jake Wilson and this month you can get a $40 rebate from Bridgestone.

I thought the original Pilot Roads were discontinued in 2007-8. I would check the build date on that PR1 to make sure it's still fresh enough to use. (Safely)

That is what I am running and so far they are great.

I think those would be way to old to use now. Be careful with old tires on a bike.

Yep, those rear PR2's wear like that, and give you that annoying buzz as a thank-you. ;-) They'll wear like that sooner if having been run at less than optimal pressure...when riding 2-up or packed for a trip, use 2-4 more psi to reduce that flank wear problem. The PR3 doesn't wear as much in this same way.

I guess Michelin stopped importing to the USA in 07-8, cos they're certainly still making them. Or at least have been until recently. Plenty of uk riders love em, especially as they've been available in the more normal 120/180-17 pairs for ?140-150.
My one is dated 3211, so is a couple of years old, but easily fresh enough not to be a problem, and will be worn out by next summer probably.
Pretty sure the PR2 was on a 12 date even though I bought it new this spring time.

Might try the new Avon 3D's after that. Had a trial pair on my Blackbird for a while and they've hardly worn at all in 2000miles. Heard of huge mileages being done on them compared to previous tyres. There now available in St13 sizes as well as GS sizes too.

update, here you go, new stock still available here

I have somewhere near 8k on my PR2 but the rear has had it. Pleanty meat in the middle. Looks like PR3 only comes in 160 or 180. Can't find it in 170. Hope the 180 fits and matches ok with the PR2 front.

As an update to my previous post. I fitted the PR1 last Thursday. As I'd said its production date is 3211, the PR2 I took off was actually older at 1511
just done 1085 miles to Normandy and back over the weekend. Bit too much autoroute, although we did find some cracking twisties, so it's well scrubbed in:D . Time will tell if its ok, but it will be a while now. I've done most of this years trips, only got a couple of longer rides left, then it'll go away as I prefer the GS in the winter as it's already weather beaten.

I just found 2 rear PR2's at my local dealer on clearance for $75! What say ye tire guru's about running them? They have been in the climate controlled shop and look like all the other tires they have. That price sure beats the heck out of $194 for a PR4GT.

5211. I got one of them. I would have bought the other but some other cheap ST guy beat me to it. It was gone when I took my wheel in.
