Hey everybody,

If I am trying to locate my engine id # on my 2005 ST1300, I saw in the manual it is on the right side on the crankcase, but do I have to remove any panels to be able to read the number? I can't seem to find it anywhere. I appreciate any help!!

Thanks,
Pikester

You can see it through the hole in the faring on the right side. I did this with a flashlight at the DMV here in California and they were happy to verify the VIN on my wife's 05 ST.

If you remove the right-side tip over wing cover, and shine a flashlight in there... then look down along the front of the head (as indicated by the red arrow in the attached pic), you should be able to see the number stamped on the tab just below the head gasket. I just took a picture of mine with my smart phone camera (see second pic). Took maybe 2-3 minutes. It will be a number like SC51E-nnnnn

EDIT: all bets are off if your engine is too gunky :)
