Front Brakes, Replace Ride Side but not Left Side

Had the bike into the dealer for Tires and they replaced the rear brakes, and the front RIGHT Set. The technician said the front RIGHT was worn slightly more than the LEFT set, and since the LEFT set still had more than 1/2 of the meat, he waited on those...

I'm sure its not a safety issue, and I can see one side wearing faster than the other, because of the Linked-Brake setup and all the extra plumbing on the LEFT side possibly harboring a small air bubble, and there-by resulting is slightly less pressure in the LEFT side caliper.

Just wondering if others have replaced one set of pads on the front before the other.

Bike has 18K miles, FYI...

Thanks!

I would never just replace one side regardless. Why would one side be more worn than the other? That is the question.

It's normal for them to wear unevenly... In my experience however the right side / inner pad of the front left caliper has always worn faster which I always contributed to the SMC being on that side. I think if everything is lubes and working perfectly it's still going to wear unevenly so just replace them when they get to that point.

I don't remember mine wearing unevenly (not a drastic difference anyway) and I've been through about 3 sets.

I've move my left inner over to the right outer and my right inner to my left outer before. I find the inners on both side wear more than the outers too.
Inners alway wear with a very slight taper too. I don't notice much of a taper on the outer pads.
Also a leaky fork seal might of cause contamination on one side which lead to more wear on the other set of pads. Or any other contamination for that matter.

I inspected the pads before I dropped off the bike, and both sides appeared to be equally worn - which is why I was surprised when he told me he only did one side... Looking at the LEFT side caliper again, the Inner Pad looks pretty thin.

I wonder if he only had 1 set on hand...

I think I'll just order another set and swap them myself...

Whats the difference between 06455-MCS-G01 and 06455-MCS-G02

More than likely, Honda made a slight change and they changed the last 2 digits.
Here is my cheat sheet on what to buy:

EBC 03-07
FA261HH (3x) front and rear

EBC 08-up
FA388HH (2x) Front. FA261HH rear

OEM 03-07
Front 06455-MCS-G02
Rear 06435-MCS-G02

OEM 08-up
Front 06455-MCS-R01
Rear 06435-MCS-G02

Thanks.

I just pulled the front LEFT pads that were not replaced and looked at them again. In reality, the Technician was probably right - they are only about 1/2 worn. The Inner Pad is worn more, and slightly beveled.

I guess I'd just feel better having them swapped at the same time...

I always replace all brakes on any end of a vehicle at the same time. For bikes, right and left sides of the front wheel. For cages, right and left wheels at the same time. It assures you have even braking.

EBC added a second part number that is thicker for the rear (all years) similar to the oem thicker rear although the 261hh will work fine in the rear.
02 and up
FA261/2HH 02-up thicker rear only
8.3 vs 11.5mm thickness

iirc g02 vs g01 added a warning or instruction sheet or some such to the shrink wrapped package.

Hi,
so, it's normal that right side brake pads and disc wear faster that left side? I have noticed that right side disc is always hotter than left side.
Sorry for my English.

Your English is perfect, I not saying it is normal, but I do experience the same thing as you. Maybe there is more freedom of movement on the right side as there is no SMC attached to it.
The right outer pad was the thinnest of the 4 when I changed out my front pads a few weeks ago.

This is correct. I actually just installed a set of FA261HH rear pads, they are working great as expected.
