Good job!

You have gone where most in this forum haven't (including me ;)

Another certified ST1300 Mechanic! :D

Well, okay, once you put the new one in and it's running, then you get to be a Certified ST1300 Mechanic!

That's under the thoughts that most can pull them apart, getting them back together & running is a whole new level! ;)

Now that is getting it done!! :bow1:

Did you find another motor yet? If so what year and what miles are on it?
Still looking. Need to save a lil more play $$$.

how many beers? :D

So, is it much easier to change the oil filter this way? or the traditional tilt and aluminum foil method?
I quit drinking 2 years ago but back then probably 2 cases.

Going to start removing the engine tomorrow evening.
I think replacement with a good used one is the best choice. If you consider a rebuild, be sure of NO CRANKCASE damage. It sounds like it somehow spun a rod bearing?? Short of that, or a broken or jumped timing chain (the 1300 is an interference engine, isn't it?). Depending on how bad the crank journal is beat up, hidden damage could abound... FWIW.

Out in the garage.
If the complete heads and cams aren't fragged and the price is right, I might be interested in them. Shoot me a PM with an asking price and pictures when you're ready.

Have you taken the motor apart yet? Did you find the cause of the piston that hit the spark plug? Hope you had time to work on it and post pictures this weekend.

I bet, now that the debris is removed and as long as there is no hole in the piston, the bike will run just fine after you put it back together again.

I wonder if that knock started right after someone got thru working on it? :eek:4:

That's painful to look at! I speculate that the intake valves do not open enough to allow a screw like that through, unless it comes through partially, then gets broken off by the piston, and drops the rest of it through on a later valve opening).

Is the cylinder wall scored? Or any of the valve seats dinged up? If yes, it won't run well (but would run).

The cylinder wall looks fine. But an intake valve is bent and the head is trashed. If I can figure out the rod bearing size. I'm going to order a good used piston with rod and a complete head assembly. I can't believe it didn't bend the rod.
