clutch grumble / feedback at biting point

Hi all,

I get a bit of clutch grumble (noisy and what feels like a knocking), I can make it happen to demonstrate it by having the brakes full on and pulling away slightly - just enough to get the symptoms- but I can feel it through the lever.

when pulling away in first gear at low revs its noticeable but with more revs not so much.

is this common, or is it suggesting the clutch is on its way or something else?

any pointers in the right direction appreciated :)

The ST doesn't like low revs... like a cruiser... without more info, I think you just need to increase the throttle when taking off.

It's common and does not portend clutch, transmission, or engine problems. Some riders are super sensitive to the rumble, grumble, rattle, whatever it does. Mine has been doing it for 120,000 or so miles.

I have this noise too. While stopped, pull the clutch in while it is in neutral, it quietens down.
Let the clutch out and it sounds like a Rottweiler chewing on a steak. They all do that Sir!!:D

this is great news as I am also new to the ST1300 and my bike does this as well
I have always rode sport bikes and this thing is a HUGE change for me
I notice when I am going straight my bike is quiet yet when I come off plane per say or lean the bike side to side
I feel a vibration
not sure if that's tires or bearings or just the V4 talking to me but my bike only has 4100 miles on it

Yep.. would be my first guess.
If it's bearings at 4100 you got a very bad set.
The v-4 will grumblewhen you overload it, go full throttle at 2500 rpm and you'll hear chatter.
By 3500 rpm you can do what you like... but for max acceleration you'll want to downshift a gear, or two. From 55 mph cruise in 5th and you want to make it boogie, drop down to 3rd. For casual acceleration, you can just go to 4th.
