His mileage isn't surprising at all to me, as my 92STeed with 83K on the clock gets consistantly 48-52mpg doing LD rides on the slab running 75-85mph.

agreed, I just rolled over 100k on mine and on the rare occasion these days where I ride consistent freeway I'm in that same range.
But he's from the UK, so I'm wondering if he's talking Imperial gallon or US gallon?
Just checked my handy-dandy pocket reference book :
4.55L = 1 (British ) Gallon
3.79L = 1 (U.S. ) Gallon
So, 50mpg ( British ) would equal 41.65mpg ( U.S. ) . That's about what I see on the slab.
